    摘要: A novel and improved method for performing paging is described. In one embodiment of the invention a searcher is used to detect spread spectrum signals. Samples received RF signals are stored in a sample buffer. During standby mode, the samples are gathered during paging slots assigned to the mobile. A set of searches are performed on the samples, and if pilot signals are detected additional demodulation is performed to detect paging messages. The resulting set of demodulation data may be combined to increase detection. After a page message has been detected, additional demodulation resources may be activated to processes more complete page messages, or other information channels. In one embodiment of the invention, the searcher includes a demodulator to perform quick page detection without the use of finger elements to reduce idle mode power consumption.

    摘要: A method and circuit for digital signal processing. The disclosed method and circuit uses a variable length instruction set. A portion of the variable length instructions may be stored in adjacent locations within memory. The beginning and ending of instructions may occur across memory word boundaries. Instructions may contain variable numbers of instruction fragments that cause a particular operation to be performed. The disclosed circuit has a set of three data buses over which data may be exchanged with a register bank and three data memories. Data buses include one wide bus and two narrow buses. The wide bus is coupled to a wide data memory and the two narrow buses are coupled to two narrow data memories. Additionally, the disclosed circuit has a register bank that is accessible by at least two processing units. The disclosed circuit further includes an instruction fetch unit that receives instructions of variable length stored in an instruction memory. An instruction memory is separate from the set of three data memories.

    摘要: A novel and improved method and apparatus for a fast-slewing pseudorandom noise sequence generator is described. One or more loadable PN generators are controlled by a DSP or microprocessor in conjunction with a free-running counter which maintains a reference offset count. The PN generator will typically be part of a finger or searcher. The DSP or microprocessor may assist in other finger or searcher functions as well as the slew function, and can control one or more fingers and/or searchers. Each PN generator is comprised of a loadable linear feedback shift register (LFSR) or its equivalent, a loadable counter for maintaining an index of the state of that particular PN generator, and a slew control device capable of receiving a slew command and controlling the LFSR and index counter to enact an advance or a retard of a certain offset distance.

This searcher combines the ability to search multiple offsets of single pilots, such as those found in the IS-95 system, with the ability to search multiple pilots, such as those found in a GPS location determination system. Both types of searching can be done in a single architecture combining the parallel computation features of a matched filter with the flexibility of allowing a variable number of coherent accumulations and a variable number of non-coherent accumulations to be performed at high speed for a wide range of search hypotheses in a resource efficient manner. This invention allows for parallel use of the matched filter structure in a time-sliced manner to search multiple windows. In addition, the searcher allows for optional independent Walsh decovering for each search window. The time-sharing approach allows for optional frequency searching of any offset.

    摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling various functional elements in a digital telephone system using state determination from an echo canceller. An echo canceller is used to evaluate which one of five talk states two speakers are engaged in during a telephone conversation. This state determination information is used to control a tone detector function, a noise suppressor function, an adaptive equalizer function, a transmission mute function, and a vocoder encoder function within a vocoder. During the talk state where the far-end speaker is active and the near-end speaker is inactive, the echo canceller provides a signal which disables background noise estimates from being performed in the noise suppressor and the vocoder encoder. The same signal is used to disable the tone detector and to enable the transmission mute function during this talk state.
