摘要： A compliant electrical contact assembly for temporarily interfacing two electrical devices. The assembly includes a contact having loops with axes forming with a closed coil with opposed contact points. The axes is angled from the direction of the compression force holding the assembly sandwiched between the electrical devices. The electrically shorted loops of the coil slide on the surfaces of one another as the compression force is applied, providing compliance. The contact can be made extremely small such that pitches in the micrometer range can be achieved with very low inductance values. The contact is installed in a through aperture in a dielectric panel such that the contact points extend from opposed openings of the aperture. Optionally, the aperture is filled with a compliant, conductive elastomer.

摘要： A compliant electrical contact (10) and an assembly (12) employing a plurality of the contacts (10). The contact (10) has several embodiments, all of which include a spring (20) with convolutions (22), a contact point (24) at each end, and a shunt (50) that is generally parallel to the spring (20) and that spans the convolutions (22) longitudinally. In one embodiment, one end of a single shunt strip (90) is fixedly attached near a contact point (24a) and the other end is slidably attached near the other contact point (24b). In another embodiment, the center of a single shunt strip (92) is fixedly attached at the center of the spring (20) and the two ends are slidably attached near the contact points (24). In another embodiment, one end of one shunt strip (94) is fixedly attached near one contact point (24a), one end of another shunt strip (96) is fixedly attached near the other contact point (24b). In one configuration, the other ends (104) of the shunt strips (94, 96) are slidably attached to the center of the spring (20). In other configurations, the other ends of the shunt strips (94, 96) are slidably electrically connected to each other. In the assembly (12), the contact (10) is placed within a through aperture (32) in a dielectric panel (30) with the contact points (24) protruding through openings (34). Optionally, the aperture (32) is filled with a compliant, electrically conductive elastomer (36) after the contact (10) is installed.

摘要： A compliant electrical contact and an assembly employing a plurality of the contacts that provides an interface between two electrical devices. The contact has a convoluted spring with convolutions and a contact point at each end. In one contact embodiment, the convolutions have appendages which electrically short adjacent convolutions throughout a significant portion of the compression range of the contact. An appendage may be a single finger that extends from one convolution toward the adjacent convolution, a pair of opposed fingers that extend toward each other from adjacent convolutions, or machined edges on adjacent convolutions. In some configurations, the fingers or a surface on the appendage or fingers are at a skew angle to the direction of compression. In another contact embodiment, a shunt attached at one contact point and parallel to the spring spans most or all of the convolutions longitudinally. The shunt electrically shorts adjacent convolutions by wiping on the abutting surface of the shunt or by a wiper extending from the convolution to the shunt. Alternatively, the shunt electrically shorts the two contact points, bypassing the convolutions. The contact is placed within a through aperture in a dielectric panel that has openings at each end through which the contact points protrude.

摘要： A test socket for an integrated circuit package having an upper housing and a lower housing secured to the top and bottom surfaces, respectively, of a load board. The upper housing having a cavity for receipt of the integrated circuit package and including a hole in the base of the upper housing to allow a plurality of solid socket plungers to contact test sites on the integrated circuit package. The socket plungers are positioned within a plurality of channels formed in the lower housing and extend through a plurality of holes in the load board to contact the test sites. A plurality of springs are positioned in the channels of the lower housing below the socket plungers to provide a spring force to bias the socket plungers upwardly toward the integrated circuit package. A ball is positioned between the spring and a beveled edge of the plunger to aid in biasing the plunger. Electrically conductive cylindrical eyelets or plated through holes are positioned within the holes in the load board to guide the travel of the socket plungers and to transfer the test signals from the socket plungers to the load board.
