摘要: A plasma picture screen provided with a luminescent layer which comprises a blue Eu2+-activated phosphor and a UV-C light emitting phosphor. The mixing of an UV-C light emitting phosphor with an Eu2+-activated phosphor or coating of an Eu2+-activated phosphor with a UV-C light emitting phosphor or coating of a base layer of an Eu2+-activated phosphor with a covering layer of a UV-C light emitting phosphor clearly reduces the photodegradation of the Eu2+-activated phosphors in the VUV range.

摘要: Illumination system comprising a radiation source and a luminescent material comprising a first phosphor capable of absorbing part of the light emitted by the radiation source and emitting light of a wavelength different from that of the absorbed light; wherein said first phosphor comprises europium(III) as an activator in a host lattice selected from the compounds of an anionic oxygen-containing species with a cationic metal species, comprising yttrium(III) and gadolinium(III). A light-emitting diode as a radiation source is especially contemplated. The invention also relates to a red to amber yellow emitting europium(III)-activated phosphor comprises europium(III) as an activator in a host lattice selected from the compounds of an anionic oxygen-containing species with a cationic metal species, comprising yttrium(III) and gadolinium(III). Furthermore the invention relates to the use of the phosphor for general illumination, traffic and signage lighting, automotive and for backlighting of liquid crystal displays.

摘要: A patient presses a finger concurrently against a needle (14) of a collection container (12) and a fingerprint surface (22, 52). In one embodiment, the patient's fingerprint is read electronically by a scanner (24) and correlated with a container serial number (16). In another embodiment, the patient's fingerprint is embossed in a foil layer (52). An analyzer assembly (40, 40′ 40″) analyzes the biological sample and reads either the container serial number or scans the fingerprint carrying layer (52) and sends the test results and either the fingerprint or container identification to a patient memory (30). Using the fingerprint information, a processor (32) correlates the test results with a record (60) of a corresponding patient. Alternately or additionally, the analyzer assembly includes a DNA analyzer (70) which measures preselected DNA characteristics (76) of the sample. The processor (32) compares the measured DNA subset characteristics with DNA subset characteristics (66) in the patient records to correlate or confirm the correlation of the analysis results with the proper patient.

摘要: In the luminescent screen of a flourescent lamp an organic europium compound is incorporated for converting mercury radiation between 350 nm and 450 nm into red light. The organic europium compound is diluted in an organic polymer. When the fluorescent lamp is dimmed its colour point shifts into the red similar to incandescent lamps and not into the blue.
