A curable organopolysiloxane composition comprising a vinyl-containing organopolysiloxane, organohydrogenpolysiloxane and platinum catalyst is proposed which is cured into a gel-like material suitable as a potting and encapsulating agent for protecting, for example, electronic components from mechanical shocks and adverse influence of the ambient atmosphere. Different from conventional similar compositions, the gelled material from the inventive composition little suffers from the problem of bleeding of oily materials contained therein on the surface. This unique advantage is obtained by using, in place of the conventional vinyl-containing organopolysiloxanes in which the vinyl groups are bonded to the silicon atoms at random position in the molecular chain, a combination of two vinyl-containing organopolysiloxanes having a specified viscosity in a limited proportion, of which one has two and only two vinyl groups in a molecular each bonded to one of the silicon atoms at the molecular chain ends and the other has one and only one vinyl group in a molecule bonded to one of the silicon atoms at the molecular chain ends alone. The composition may further contain a low-viscosity dimethylpolysiloxane so that the silicone gel can be imparted with softness and adhesiveness without increasing the amount of bleeding of the oily constituents.

A curable silicone composition which can cure using hydrosilylation, comprising an aluminum oxide powder and/or silica powder, the powders each consisting of substantially spherical particles with an average particle diameter of 50 .mu.m or below and an elongation of from 1.0 to 1.4 and being such that the respective amounts of alkali metal ions and halogen ions are extracted with 50 ml of water from 5 g of the powder at 121.degree. C. for 20 hours are not more than 10 ppm, wherein the amount of the component (D) is from 25 to 90% by weight based on the composition, and the ratio of the amount of hydrosilyl groups contained in the components (A) and (B) to the amount of alkenyl groups contained in the components (A) and (B) is in the range from 0.5/1 to 1.5/1. When the composition is used as a protective material or encapsulating material for devices such as ICs, generated heat can be dissipated efficiently and the devices are not be broken by abrasion. There are no fears of causing corrosion of the devices.

Curable or vulcanizable fluorinated silicone compositions which comprise a uniform mixture of predetermined amounts of an organopolysiloxane of the following average unit formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 represents a monovalent hydrocarbon group having from 1 to 8 carbon atoms, and a and b are, respectively, a defined value; an organohydrogenpolysiloxane having at least three SiH groups in one molecule and consisting of the several siloxane units; and a catalytic amount of a platinum compound. If necessary, another type of polysiloxane may be added to the above composition in order to further improve physical properties. The composition is rapidly vulcanized to give a cured product having stable physical properties within a short time.

An organopolysiloxane composition for molding purposes is provided which includes: (A) an organopolysiloxane with at least two alkenyl groups bonded to silicon atoms, (B) a straight chain organopolysiloxane with a hydrogen atom bonded to a silicon atom at both terminals, (C) an organohydrogenpolysiloxane with at least three hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within a single molecule and including a RHSiO unit and a R2XSiO1/2 unit (wherein R is an unsubstituted or a substituted monovalent hydrocarbon group with no alkenyl groups, and X represents either a hydrogen atom or a group represented by R as defined above) within the molecule, (D) a hydrosilylation reaction catalyst, and (E) finely powdered silica, wherein the total number of hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within the constituent (B) and the constituent (C) ranges from 1 to 5 per alkenyl group within the constituent (A), and the number of hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within the constituent (B) accounts for 20 to 70 mol % of the combined number of hydrogen atoms bonded to silicon atoms within the constituent (B) and the constituent (C). This composition displays superior mold releasability relative to materials such as urethane resins, epoxy resins, dicyclopentadiene resins and polyester resins, and moreover also displays superior elongation at shearing and tear strength, and can be suitably used as a highly durable mold composition.
