摘要: Thermal sources of Te and of Hg are provided in a vacuum chamber to furnish constant effusion of Te and Hg. Laser radiation is used to evaporate a beam of CdTe from a target of CdTe in the chamber. The laser radiation is modulated to vary the beam intensity of CdTe and thereby deposit a controlled compositional profile of Hg.sub.(1-x) Cd.sub.x Te on a substrate located in the chamber.

摘要: An electrical generator includes one or more magnets that move relative to one or more conductors to generate an electrical signal in each conductor. Each magnet has ferrofluid bearings in the vicinity of its opposite ends to provide a low friction interface between the magnet and a support structure. The ferrofluid bearings establish a field expansion medium that directs at least a portion of the magnetic field so that a greater portion of the field intersects the conductors than in the absence of the medium. The magnet aspect ratio is preferably on the order of unity.

摘要: The present invention relates to a novel zinc oxide thin film having hydrogen (H) and gallium (Ga) dopants. Advantageously, the activation temperature is low. The co-doped zinc oxide is highly conductive, transparent, chemically stable, easily deposited on a variety of substrates, including flexible or plastic substrates, and is well suited for electrical or optical applications. By co-doping with two impurities, both sides of the zinc oxide lattice contribute to the film conductivity resulting in high electron concentration and high mobility. The co-doped zinc oxide thin film has an increased Fermi level and a reduced work function that is less than 3 eV. The co-doped zinc oxide is crystal clear and transparent even when grown at relatively low processing temperatures. In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, a novel low-temperature activation indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film comprising tin oxide co-doped with indium (In) and hydrogen is disclosed.

摘要: An ambient temperature solid state sensor for detecting the concentration of a gas includes an insulating substrate, a polycrystalline semiconducting oxide thin film deposited on the substrate such that the gas can be adsorbed on the surface of the film, the film having a low carrier concentration and a high resistivity, a pair of electrodes disposed on the film for measuring the electrical resistance of the film, and a source of light having a wavelength component which is absorbed by the thin film, thereby causing photodesorption of the gas from the surface of the film and establishing the equilibrium between gaseous species in the ambient and gaseous species adsorbed on the oxide surface. The resistance of the thin film is dependent on the amount of adsorbed gas, the measured resistance of the film thereby indicating the concentration of the gas.

摘要: A dynamic magnet system, particularly useful for electrical generation, employs multiple magnets in polar opposition to each other for individual movement relative to a support structure. The magnets have a critical angle of displacement from a horizontal static position of less than 1 degree, with at least some of the magnets having mutually different properties. With different magnetic strengths, a greater movement is produced for both magnets in response to movements of the support structure, for particular ranges of magnetic strength ratios, than would be the case with equal magnets. The magnet movement can be translated into an electrical signal to power an operating system. Ultra low friction ferrofluid bearings can be used to establish static coefficients of friction between the magnets and support structure less than 0.02, enabling useful power generation from only slight movements of the support structure.

摘要: A mechanical translator includes at least one magnet that is disposed on a substrate to carry a load and has a magnetic axis generally transverse to the substrate, establishing a magnetic field with maximum external density adjacent the substrate. An ultra low friction interface is obtained with ferrofluid bearings, such as a light mineral oil medium mixed with isoparaffinic acid, which establish a critical angle of displacement from a horizontal static position of less than 1 degree, and preferably less than 10 minutes. A controller of magnetic material can be placed on the opposite side of the substrate to control the movement of the magnets.
