Abstract:
The present invention is an apparatus for and method of remotely, automatically, and routinely conducting diagnostic testing on a programmable hearing aid to ensure that it is functioning as intended when optimized for an individual's needs and preferences. Because hearing aids deteriorate with time and buildup of earwax, individuals can be uncertain whether their hearing is worsening or the hearing aid is malfunctioning. The net effect is diminished hearing aid performance and thus diminished quality of life. The present invention tests the hearing aid for proper function as frequently as daily. Additionally, the present invention includes elements (201, 202) that enable the apparatus to perform a cleaning process to effectively remove earwax and other undesirable debris from the hearing aid. The cleaning process can occur prior to the diagnostic testing or as a result of the diagnostic testing.
Abstract:
Method and system (400) for becoming aware of some hearing loss and the need for a professional hearing test. Simple and professional hearing testing provide an understanding of the improvement in the quality of life that can be achieved through use of a hearing aid. Ordering and fitting of the hearing aid, and training on use of a hearing aid, are performed to further demonstrate and provide for improved quality of life. The system (400) includes a user (410), a hearing test unit (415), a test administrator computer (420), a pair of headphones (422), a keyboard (423), a monitor (426), a series of hearing test programs (446), a central hearing health system (440), a database, a device (433), and a set of individual results.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to hearing aid training systems (100). More particularly, the present invention relates to the simulation of a hearing aid environment (108) prior to a user's (105) purchase of a hearing aid. To create the simulated environment, the user's hearing profile (111) is collected from all prior hearing tests. Prior hearing tests include information on all aspects of the user's hearing, such as frequency and speech intelligibility. The software program (126) of this invention, and the audiologist using the software program (126), analyzes the user's hearing profile and creates a simulation that demonstrates to the user how he or she would hear with a hearing aid. Furthermore, this invention provides a way to make additional adjustments to the hearing aid's DSP data based upon user preferences prior to ordering the individual customized hearing aid.
Abstract:
This invention focuses on electrooptic devices and in particular on electrochromic devices with many aspects directed towards automotive EC mirrors. There are several ways to improve these products and their processing using this invention and some of the prominent ones are outlined below. This invention improves on the devices by disclosing new compositions for electrodes and methods of depositing them. It also addresses novel ways to provide busbars to power these devices in order to improve their performance. The device processing attributes and performance are also improved by adhesive compositions and solid electrolytes disclosed herein. In addition sensors are also disclosed which are novel for use in electrochromic mirrors. The invention also discloses how the electrolytes comprising ionic liquids have no adverse effect on attributes of commercial EC mirrors and often result in improved performance and/or feature enhancements.
Abstract:
There is shown a method of treating household waste comprising separation, shredding and dewatering steps, as well as detoxifying steps, prior to mixing the household waste with an alkali solution and thereafter mixing the alkali solution and household waste mixture with a dry mixture of cement and aggregate to form a concrete mixture. The concrete mixture can then be used in the construction of building elements or may in turn be used as an aggregate material in future concrete mixtures. Expensive composting steps are thereby avoided and the household waste is handled in an environmentally secure, yet efficient manner.
Abstract:
A low-cost practical method of determining beryllium or a beryllium compound thereof in a sample is disclosed by measuring fluorescence. This method discloses optical filters for use with low cost fluorometers which may be used to quantitatively determine the presence of beryllium. This method may be extended to estimate particle size distribution for particles comprising Beryllium. A method is also disclosed to store solutions for extended period of time so that these materials are stable during transportation and in the labs.
Abstract:
A customizable system (100) made up of a plurality of individual modules for dispensing minor wound-care products with one hand. The modules are easily attached to and disconnected from each other to provide an integrated dispensing device of variable size that may be accessed quickly and efficiently. The system includes one or more disposable bandage modules (110) having a top wall (111), a bottom wall (112), a front wall (113), a back wall (114), a right side wall (115), and a left side wall (116). The walls are permanently joined together to form a body (117) having an internal cavity (118). The bandage modules include an opening (119) on the front wall, a cutting edge (120) within the opening, and one or more module-joining attachments (121) on said side walls (115) and (116). The system may also include one or more accessory modules.

Abstract:
A searchable database contains rehabilitation plans for individuals having the same medical condition. The rehabilitation plans are indexed by scores corresponding to physical dimensions and personal environment dimensions characteristics of the respective individuals having the same medical condition and also by scores representative of actual success results associated with prescribing the respective rehabilitation plans. The database can be queried to identify rehabilitation plans for a dimension whose assessment information matches individual assessment information for the same dimension of an individual requiring rehabilitation for the same medical condition. In addition, the actual success scores can be used to identify rehabilitation plans in the database likely to be successful when prescribed to an individual. The individual assessment information and the identified rehabilitation plan prescribed to the individual, and also feedback obtained from the individual to which an identified plan is prescribed and also success results for the prescribed plan, can be used to update the database.
