摘要： In a magnetic disk apparatus such as a Winchester drive, a head position control mechanism is provided for locking the transducer head on a noneffective surface region of the magnetic disk, where no data is to be stored, as when the apparatus is powered off. A locking lever pivots in a plane parallel to the disk plane for movement into and out of locking engagement with a rotary member rotatable jointly with the head arm about a common axis. A solenoid holds the locking lever out of locking engagement with the rotary member during the progress of data transfer between disk and head. Upon completion of the data transfer, or when the apparatus is electrically turned off, the solenoid becomes deenergized, permitting the locking lever to be sprung into locking engagement with the rotary member. Then the head arm transports the head to, and allows the same to land on, the noneffective surface region of the disk. The head is locked in that position as long as the locking lever remains in locking engagement with the rotary member.

摘要： Disclosed is a strands protector which comprises a U-shaped housing having a three-dimensionally bent bottom wall and side walls upstanding from the bottom wall, and a cover member connected by a hinge to the housing to close the opening of the housing and releasably secured to the housing by locking means. The cover member includes a hinge at a position corresponding to the location of the bent portion of the bottom wall of the housing.Also disclosed is a locking mechanism which comprises a locking arm provided on one of two hinge-connected members and an arm-engaging receptacle provided on the other member. The locking arm has an end projection adapted to be inserted in a central hole of the receptacle to secure the two members together, and the receptacle has a projection insertion cutout at a position where interference occurs between the projection of the locking arm and the receptacle when one of these two members is superposed on the other.

摘要： The invention provides an improved method for forming a cover layer over a joint of electrical wires. Portions of insulation layers of wires to be joined are stripped and the bared conductors of the wires assembled in a desired configuration to form a joint. The joint is placed in a transparent mold and the mold is filled with a photosetting resin. Radiation of an appropriate wavelength is then passed through the mold to harden the resin.

摘要： In a data transfer apparatus such as a Winchester disk drive wherein a transducer or transducers fly over a magnetic disk surface or surfaces during data transfer therewith, a retractor mechanism is provided which coacts with a transducer positioning mechanism for causing the transducer to land on a head landing track disposed radially and inwardly from a series of concentric data storage tracks on the disk, as when the apparatus is electrically turned off. The retractor mechanism includes a spring or like energy storage element in which energy is stored when, with the apparatus powered on, the transducer is first transported by the positioning mechanism from the head landing track to the outermost home track on the disk for initialization. The spring is locked, as under the force of a solenoid, against the release of the stored energy during the subsequent run of data transfer, making it possible for the positioning mechanism to transport the transducer from track to track without being loaded by the deflected spring. When the apparatus is powered off, the solenoid unlocks the spring for releasing the stored energy and hence for returning the transducer to the landing track.
