    摘要: A waterborne thermoset cured anticorrosion formulation includes a water dispersed or emulsified phosphonated or water dispersed or emulsified sulfonated epoxy resin that is cured with a phenoxy resin having a polyhydroxyl ether backbone and terminal alpha glycol moieties. Water is present as a predominant volatile in which the epoxy resin and phenoxy resin are present in a weight ratio of epoxy resin to phenoxy resin of between 0.1 and 3:1. An aqueous curative is provided to induce cure between the epoxy resin and phenoxy resin, A corrosion inhibiting metal salt is also present having a salt anion of phosphate, biphosphate or tetraborate and a metal cation with the proviso that the metal cation formulation as a whole is devoid of chromium, lead, cobalt, and cadmium. Ideal curatives include aqueous aminoplast crosslinkers, aqueous unblocked isocyanates, aqueous blocked isocyanates, and a mixture thereof. With the inclusion of electrically conductive aluminum or zinc particulate the formulation is rendered corrosion resistant as well as electrically conductive to make an inventive coating amenable to powder coating.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method for embedding a multiplicity of discrete masses of material in a resinous coating on a sheet of metal in a coil coating system. The sheet is coated, the masses are embedded in the wet resinous coating, and the coating is dried in a one-pass system. The resinous coating and the embedded masses are preferably resistant to ultra-violet radiation. The wet resinous coating, therefore, is preferably a liquid fluorocarbon resin. The discrete masses comprise pigmented particulate minerals and resins in the form of granules, beads, vesiculated beads, pellets, flakes, platelets, cylinders, coating powders, and coating powder precursor chips. The minerals include glass, quartz, mica, pebbles, and ceramics. The particulate resins include polyesters, acrylics, nylons, polyurethanes, polycarbonates, solid fluorocarbon resins, and solid mixtures of a fluorocarbon resin and an acrylate or methacrylate polymer or copolymer. Sheet metal decorated in such a manner is useful as stock in the manufacture of metal roofing shingles simulating the appearance of traditional asphalt shingles.

    摘要: A polyester-based coating composition capable of forming a striated pattern on a metal surface at a film thickness less than half of that of PVC plastisol films is provided by a thixotropic composition having a thix index of from about 1.5 to about 3 and comprising a hydroxy-functional polyester, a thixotropy-inducing rheologic agent and curing agent. The striated coating is applied to sheet metal in a coil coating operation by introducing the composition into a paint pan of a coil coater, transferring said composition from said paint pan to an applicator roll by rotating a pick-up roll in contact with the composition and with said applicator roll; continuously withdrawing a sheet of metal from a coil thereof and coating said sheet by contacting it with the applicator roll; curing the coating on said sheet by passing the sheet through an oven at an elevated temperature; and continuously rewinding said sheet into a coil.

    摘要: Ultraviolet-curable liquid coating compositions are disclosed in which improved adhesion to metal and plastic surfaces is obtained. This improvement is obtained by using, in admixture: (1) from 10% to about 60% of total resin solids of an organic solvent-soluble solution copolymer of monoethylenically unsaturated monomers including from 2.5% to 10% of tertiary amine monomer which is an aminoalkyl ester or amide of an alpha, beta-monoethylenic monocarboxylic acid in which the alkyl group contains 2-4 carbon atoms; and (2) from 40% to 90% of total resin solids of radiation-curable ethylenically unsaturated liquid. The coating composition includes photoinitiators and/or photosensitizers rendering the composition sensitive to ultraviolet light, and the components are present in solution in at least about 10% of inert volatile organic solvent.

    摘要: Low organic solvent-containing coating compositions are prepared by blending (i) an ester-containing polyol, having a number average molecular weight of from about 140 to about 700, a hydroxyl value of from about 160 to about 1100 and a viscosity of less than about 1200 poises, which is derived from an aromatic or alicyclic monobasic acid and, optionally, a minor proportion of a polybasic acid and a polyol having an average hydroxyl functionality of from about 2.1 to about 5.0 with (ii) an aminealdehyde crosslinking agent. Particularly valuable coating compositions which can be cured at relatively low temperatures are obtained by incorporating a cure accelerating catalyst into the composition. The compositions aid in environmental pollution control and form films having good adhesion, flexibility, hardness, stain resistance, detergent resistance, solvent resistance and durability.

    摘要: A method for a low temperature cure for a coating composition comprising: applying to a substrate a low temperature curing coating composition consisting essentially of a film forming component consisting essentially of a non-carbamate functional polymeric component selected from the group consisting of polyester, silicone modified polyester, polyurethane, acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, polyamide, phenolic and polysilane polymers and mixtures thereof; a crosslinking component to crosslink the non-carbamate functional polymeric component; a catalyst selected from the group consisting of Lewis acids, perflouracetic acid, methane sulfonic acid catalyst and mixtures thereof; and additives selected from the group consisting of solvents, flow control agents, pigments, flexibilizing resins, surfactants, waxes, wetting agents, plasticizers, anti-oxidants, UV light absorbers, and a mixture thereof, and subjecting the coated substrate to a cure temperature of between 280° F. and 450° F., for a time sufficient to cure the coating.
