The non-water reducible anticrater agent is a polyesterurethane that is the reaction product of an aliphatic carboxylic acid anhydride, a monofunctional epoxy compound, a monofunctional alcohol and a diisocyanate and/or a polyisocyanate. The improved electrocoating composition provides cured coatings that have fewer craters and have a smooth surface when compared to coatings utilizing other anticrater additives.

An alkali-developable photosensitive resin composition comprises a carboxyl group-containing urethane resin having a biphenyl novolak structure, a photopolymerization initiator, and aluminum hydroxide and/or a phosphorus-containing compound. The composition may be formulated as a photocurable and thermosetting resin composition by further incorporating therein a thermosetting component having a plurality of cyclic ether groups and/or cyclic thioether groups in the molecule, besides the components described above. The photosensitive resin composition may further contain a colorant. By using the photosensitive resin composition or a dry film thereof, a printed wiring board having a flame-retardant cured film, such as a solder resist, formed from the halogen-free composition can be provided while imposing little burden on the environment, the cured film being flame-retardant and reduced in warpage and having various excellent properties including bending characteristics, resistance to soldering heat, and resistance to gold plating.

The invention provides high solids epoxy-based autodeposition coating materials that have improved moisture barrier properties and/or anti-corrosive properties and a means to obtain the high solids epoxy-based autodeposition coating materials that eliminates/minimizes the need for process solvents. A hydrophobic water barrier enhancing agent, epoxy pre-polymer and ethylenically unsaturated monomer, as an alternative to organic solvent, are combined to yield an epoxy pre-polymer-monomer-hydrophobic water barrier enhancing agent blend, which may be blended with other coating components and additives. The resulting blend is then dispersed in water with surfactant and the ethylenically unsaturated monomer is polymerized (in the presence of other formulation components) to yield a dispersion. The dispersion may then be used as one component of a coating formulation. The coating formulation can then be applied to materials and cured to form a final coating.

An electrodepositable composition is provided comprising:(A) a non-gelled cationic resin which is derived from a polyepoxide and which contains in the resin molecule cationic salt groups and active hydrogen groups selected from aliphatic hydroxyl and primary and secondary amino; and present as a separate component(B) a fully capped polyisocyanate curing agent containing substantially no free isocyanate groups, The electrodepositable composition contains from about 0.02 to 1.0 milliequivalents phenolic hydroxyl groups per gram of resin solids, and from about 0.1 to 2.0 milliequivalents beta-hydroxy ester groups per gram of resin solids. The composition provides excellent corrosion resistance when electrodeposited over steel substrates, and does not require lead in the formulation nor the use of a conventional chrome rinse for the steel substrate pretreatment before electrodeposition.
