Abstract: Systems and methods for braking a power tool using a stamped brake resistor. The power tool includes a motor, a trigger configured to be actuated, and a brake switch coupled to the motor. A brake resistor assembly is selectively coupled to the motor via the brake switch and includes a stamped brake resistor. The stamped brake resistor includes a terminal portion and a resistive portion. The resistive portion includes a planar serpentine path. A controller including an electronic processor and a memory is coupled to the trigger, the motor, and the brake switch, and is configured to control power delivered to the motor based on a position of the trigger, determine to brake the motor during operation of the motor, and activate, in response to determining to brake the motor, the brake switch to connect the stamped brake resistor to the motor.

Abstract: One embodiment provides an electrical circuit coupled to an alternator. The electrical circuit includes a rotor and stator coils. The electrical circuit is configured to receive, at a point when an engine is operating, an electrical current that is induced in the stator coils by rotation of the rotor and charge a battery pack with the electrical current and inhibit generation of a spark by the engine while the alternator is powered by the battery pack until a speed of the alternator is greater than a threshold. The electrical circuit is further configured to power the alternator, at a point when the engine is not operating, with electrical current supplied by the battery pack coupled to a battery connector to start the engine.

Abstract: A drain cleaning machine includes a brushless direct current (DC) motor configured to rotate a snake about the snake axis. An electronic processor is configured to control power switching elements to drive the brushless DC motor. In a first operating range when a load experienced by the brushless DC motor is less than or equal to a predetermined load, the electronic processor is configured to control the power switching elements to drive the brushless DC motor at an approximately constant speed regardless of the load experienced by the brushless DC motor. In a second operating range when the load experienced by the brushless DC motor is greater than the predetermined load, the electronic processor is configured to control the power switching elements to drive the brushless DC motor at a decreasing speed as the load experienced by the brushless DC motor increases.

Abstract: System and method for a portable propane-fueled battery charger. One system includes a battery charger including a propane fuel line and an engine including an output shaft. The engine is configured to receive propane via the propane fuel line and rotationally drive the output shaft. The battery charger further includes an alternator including a rotor and stator coils. The output shaft is mechanically coupled to the rotor, and the rotor is rotationally driven by the output shaft. An electrical current is induced in the stator coils by rotation of the rotor. The battery charger further includes an electrical circuit that receives the electrical current and is configured to determine when a battery pack is coupled to a battery connector, and charge the battery pack.
