    摘要: A contact apparatus can be made by providing a first substrate with electrically conductive terminals and second substrates each of which can have contact structures. Each of the contact structures can have a contact tip. The second substrates can be aligned such that contact tips of the contact structures are aligned substantially in a plane. An optical system can be used to monitor an actual position of the second substrates, and a mechanical system can be used to move the second substrates to aligned positions. The contact structures can be attached to ones of the terminals on the first substrate while the second substrates are in the aligned positions.

    摘要: A concentrator having a single medium access controller for monitoring a plurality of communication lines is provided. Each of the communication lines corresponds to a network and carries identification signals periodically transmitted by devices on the corresponding network. The medium access controller includes a transmit unit and a receive unit. The transmit unit sequentially broadcasts concentrator identification signals over each of the communication lines. The transmit unit sequences through the communication lines at a rate to insure that a concentrator identification signal is sent over each communication line during a predetermined transmit interval. The receive unit sequentially monitors the signals on each of the communication lines. The receive unit monitors the signals on any given communication line for a predetermined monitoring period before sequencing to the next communication line. The duration of the monitoring period for a given communication line is at least as long as the longest identification signal transmit interval for any device on the communication line. Consequently, the receive unit will detect an identification signal from all of the active devices on a given communication line during the monitoring period for the communication line. The receive unit stores an indication of the identification signals it detects and the ports on which they were detected. This stored information may be used by a network management station to generate a map showing how the concentrator is connected to other devices.

    摘要: An office furniture desk arrangement for providing a CRT work station, in which the desk includes a desk top that along the front of the desk defines a broad and flat work surfacing that extends between the sides of the desk under which a computer keyboard may be retractably mounted, and that along the back of the desk extends a relatively narrow trackway that also extends essentially between the sides of the desk, the upper surfacing of which is in substantial coplanar relation with the desk work surfacing. Underlying the desk top trackway is an easily excessed horizontal trough for concealing electrical wiring, with the trackway shiftably mounting a carriage for movement therealong that includes a rear casing that is roller equipped for riding along the trackway cantilever mounted fashion, and a front casing that is disposed over the desk top work surfacing and is connected to the rear casing for hand adjustment movement by the desk user toward and away from the desk user at the front of the desk. The carriage front casing includes a turntable assembly on which a CRT or the like can be rested and electrically connected through the carriage rear casing to wiring disposed in the trough for connecting same to the computer keyboard and a computer terminal. The CRT resting on the carriage is thus adjustable for desk user convenience toward and away from the user, along the length of the desk work surfacing at its rear, and also can be swivelled.
