摘要: An insert (10) for a cutting tool (100) for use down a well bore comprises a body of a hard material (tungsten carbide) suitable for cutting steel. The body is shaped for formation in a mould that comprises a die (70) and first (74) and second (78) punches and arranged so that the first punch can eject the body after formation from an opening of the die closed during formation by said second punch. The insert has first (12) and second (14) ends whose faces are defined, at least in part, by corresponding faces of the first and second punch. Between them is a longitudinal axis (24) of the insert. The area of the first end is less than the area of the second end. The body has flanks (16) that form ridges (18) extending between the first and second ends. The ridges form cutting edges of the insert. They are separated by V-shaped troughs (20) of said flanks. The ridges taper and spiral about the axis.

摘要: The present invention provides a computer system with an improved graphically-oriented user interface that permits the user to more easily select for manipulation one object from a number of objects that overlap or are in close proximity to one another at a common location in a graphic display. In a preferred embodiment, the invention presents the computer user with the opportunity to preview all possible objects that the cursor might be identifying at its current position and the ability to select one of those objects for manipulation. Thus, rather than cycling through the entire list of objects available for selection at a location in the display, the user can immediately narrow the list down to the desired selection only. The present invention prevents selection errors and drastically reduces the number of user inputs required to select an object.

摘要: A method and system which combines a properly designed FEC and the periodic transmission of known symbols to obtain a desired error performance in a point-to-multipoint digital transmission system employing a DFE which induces error propagation. A transmitter unit includes a forward error correction encoder (FEC) which implements a code to information provided to an input of a data interleaver having block length N and interleaving depth D, and a data modulator which is coupled to an output of the data interleaver to receive a stream of data symbols. At least one receiver unit includes a decision feedback equalizer (DFE) which includes a feedback filter and provides an input to a data deinterleaver having block length N and interleaving depth D, and a FEC decoder which receives data from an output of the data deinterleaver. Sequences of known symbols of length at least equal to the length of the feedback filter are periodically added to the output of the data interleaver. The receiver unit uses knowledge of the sequence to pass correct data to the feedback filter. The number of data symbols between the periodic sequences is made equal to an integer multiple k of the interleaving Depth D, thus limiting error propagation to cause no more than k errors per codeward of block length N. The FEC code serves to correct the k errors per error propagation event.

摘要: An apparatus is programmed with a plurality of programming instructions for automatically generating a reconfiguration script comprising a plurality of configuration commands for reconfiguring a plurality of telecommunication devices of a telecommunication system, based on a current and a target descriptive image of the telecommunication system. The current descriptive image specifies the devices and their features included in the current configuration of the telecommunication system, whereas the target image specifies the devices and their features to be included in the target configuration of the telecommunication system. The plurality of programming instructions generate the reconfiguration script employing feature dependency graph (FDG) data structures, a device model modeling the rules and behaviors of the telecommunication devices, and feature deletion/addition linklists.

摘要: A method of construction of a tungsten carbide/TSP insert for hard facing a wear surface comprises the steps of forming a tungsten carbide body (12) in a mold. After the molding step, a channel section slot (24) or pocket (24′) is created in the body before it has hardened substantially. The body is then heat-treated to harden it. A TSP body (32) is fitted in the slot/pocket (24/24′) so that it is a close sliding fit between the sides (18) of the slot, and is of the same depth as the slot. The TSP is (preferably) brazed into the slot. The insert has pips (30) on its edges (18) to facilitate welding to a substrate prior to a final brazing step.

摘要: A hybrid armor architecture is provided that is effective against explosively-formed and other high-energy ballistic projectiles. The architecture includes at least one laminate reactive armor panel including a layer of non-explosively reactive material sandwiched between outer layers of a ductile material, an armor plate disposed behind the laminate reactive armor panel, and a flyer plate disposed behind the armor plate. The flyer plate or a portion thereof is configured to move toward and impact a body panel that is being protected on impact of a high-energy ballistic projectile with the flyer plate or the portion thereof, to thereby increase the total area of impact with the body panel relative to the projectile alone.
