摘要： Disclosed is a tinted article formed from a substrate having a refractive index of at least 1.57 comprising at least partially polymerized sulfur-containing polyurethane material and/or at least partially polymerized sulfur-containing polyurethaneurea material; an intermediate coating applied to at least a portion of the substrate; a tintable hardcoat applied to at least a portion of the intermediate coating; and tint applied to at least a portion of the tintable hardcoat. Methods for preparing the tinted articles also are provided.

摘要： A polymerizable, liquid, substantially gel-free composition comprising a partially polymerized mixture of ethylenically unsaturated compounds wherein: (a) the mixture of ethylenically unsaturated compounds which was partially polymerized comprised a mixture of diethylene glycol (allyl carbonate) compounds each represented by Formula I: ##STR1## in which n is a positive integer, m is a positive integer, and the diethylene glycol (allyl carbonate) compound for which the value of n is 1 constituted from 25 to 75 area percent of the mixture of diethylene glycol (allyl carbonate) compounds; and (b) the ethylenic double bond utilization of the polymerizable, liquid, substantially gel-free composition is at least 3 percent. The polymerizable, liquid, substantially gel-free composition exhibits low shrinkage in the mold when polymerized.

摘要： Describes a method of preparing a polymerizate by polymerizing a two-component organic composition comprising: a first component containing a polyfunctional reactant having two or more functional groups selected from isocyanate, isothiocyanate and combinations of isocyanate and isothiocyanate groups; and a second component containing a polythiol represented by the following general formula I, ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each selected from the group consisting of straight or branched chain alkylene, e.g., methylene and ethylene, cyclic alkylene, phenylene and C.sub.1 -C.sub.9 alkyl substituted phenylene. The second component may also optionally contain a reactive hydrogen compound that is different than the polythiol of general formula I. Polymerizates prepared according to the present invention are useful as ophthalmic lenses and have a refractive index of at least 1.57, an Abbe number of at least 33 and an initial Barcol hardness of at least 1. Also described are photochromic articles prepared from such polymerizates.

Optionally there may also be present from about 0 to 65 weight percent of at least one monomer component which is selected from: (i) a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer that is polymerizable by free radical initiation; (ii) a bis�(meth)acryloyl-terminated!polyethylene glycol monomer; and (iii) a monomer having at least three terminal ethylenically-unsaturated groups. Substantially completely cured polymerizates prepared from such compositions may be used to prepare photochromic articles, e.g., lenses, by incorporating a photochromic substance, e.g., by thermal transfer, into the polymerizate.

摘要： A process for forming a polymerizable, liquid, substantially gel-free, poly(allyl carbonate)-functional prepolymer composition comprises heating a neat composition comprising at least one poly(allyl carbonate)-functional monomer and free radical initiator having a ten-hour half-life temperature of at least 85.degree. C. at temperatures in the range of from 5 Celsius degrees below the ten-hour half-life temperature of the free radical initiator to 150.degree. C., to form a reaction mixture having an increased 25.degree. C. viscosity in the range of from 25 to 10,000 centipoises and an ethylenic double bond utilization of at least 3 percent; and over a period of less than 90 minutes cooling the reaction mixture to a temperature at least 20 Celsius degrees below the ten-hour half-life temperature of the initiator.
