    Abstract: In a converting method relating to picture luminance according to one aspect of the present disclosure, the picture luminance is formed by luminance values in a first luminance range. In this method, a first luminance signal that indicates code values obtained by quantizing the luminance value of the picture is obtained, code values, which are associated with the code values indicated by the obtained first luminance signal by quantization for a second luminance range different in a maximum value from the first luminance range are determined as converted code values, and the first luminance signal is converted into a second luminance signal indicating the converted code values. As a result, the converting method is further improved.

    Abstract: A transmitting method according to one aspect of the present disclosure is a transmitting method of a playback device, and includes: when a version of a transmission protocol is a first version, transmitting first meta data to a display device without transmitting second meta data to the display device, the transmission protocol being used to transmit a signal between the playback device and the display device, the first meta data including information that is commonly used for a plurality of images included in a continuous playback unit of a first video signal and relates to a luminance range of the first video signal, and the second meta data including information that is commonly used for a unit subdivided compared to the continuous playback unit of the first video signal and relates to the luminance range of the first video signal; and when the version of the transmission protocol is a second version, transmitting the first meta data and the second meta data to the display device.

    Abstract: A display system includes a conversion apparatus converting video luminance including a luminance value in a first luminance range and a display apparatus connected thereto and displaying the video. The conversion apparatus includes a first acquisition unit, a first luminance converter, a second luminance converter, a quantization converter, and an output unit outputting a third luminance signal to the display apparatus. The display apparatus includes: a second acquisition unit acquiring the third luminance signal and setting information indicating display settings recommended to the display apparatus in display of the video; a display setting unit setting the display apparatus, using the setting information; a third luminance converter converting a third code value indicated by the third luminance signal into a second luminance value compatible with a second luminance range, using the setting information; and a display controller displaying the video on the display apparatus based on the second luminance value.

    Abstract: A data generation method is for generating video data that covers a second luminance dynamic range wider than a first luminance dynamic range and has reproduction compatibility with a first device that does not support reproduction of video having the second luminance dynamic range and supports reproduction of video having the first luminance dynamic range, and includes: generating a video signal to be included in the video data using a second OETF; storing, into VUI in the video data, first transfer function information for identifying a first OETF to be referred to by the first device when the first device decodes the video data; and storing, into SEI in the video data, second transfer function information for identifying a second OETF to be referred to by a second device supporting reproduction of video having the second luminance dynamic range when the second device decodes the video data.
