摘要: A catheter system includes a catheter sheath and a flexible working shaft within a working lumen of the sheath. The sheath includes a monorail-type guidewire lumen at its distal end, and a stiffening member is provided adjacent a side port of the monorail guidewire lumen to inhibit prolapse of the catheter as it is introduced past a bend or curve over a guidewire. In a first embodiment, the stiffening member may be secured directly within a working lumen of the catheter body. In a second embodiment, the stiffening member may be attached to a distal end of the working shaft, typically an imaging core.

摘要: A guidewire system for use in catheter exchanges avoids the need for a separate exchange wire by connecting an extension wire to the proximal end of the guidewire thereby increasing the effective length of the guidewire to permit a catheter exchange. The proximal end of the guidewire is attached to the distal end of the exchange wire by a disconnectable reattachable connection which avoids deformation of the connected joint.

摘要: A closure system and methods of use are provided for use in sealing an opening in a body tissue, such as a vascular puncture site. A method of closing the opening in the body tissue can be performed with the closure system having a closure clip. The method can include positioning the closure clip in a first closure clip position adjacent to the opening in the body tissue such that a plurality of spikes of the closure clip are inserted into the tissue at a location outward from a central axis of the opening. Subsequently, the closure clip can be positioned in a second closure clip position such that the plurality of spikes are pulled inward toward the central axis of the opening so as to pull the tissue between the opening and each of the spikes together and close the opening.

摘要: An apparatus for sealing a passage through tissue includes a bioabsorbable body disposed on a distal end of a handle device. The plug member includes a helical thread on its outer surface and the plug member and handle device include cooperating lumens communicating with a distal port. A sealing member is disposed within the plug member lumen. An obturator is inserted through the lumens until its distal tip extends beyond the plug member, the distal tip including a bleed back port. The plug member is threaded into a passage towards a blood vessel until the bleed back indicator identifies the location of the vessel with respect to the plug member. The plug member is released from the handle device, the handle device and obturator are withdrawn, and the sealing member seals the lumen. The plug member is left within the passage to seal the passage until the tissue heals.

摘要: A closure system and methods of use are provided for use in sealing an opening in a body tissue, such as a vascular puncture site. A method of closing the opening in the body tissue can be performed with the closure system having a closure clip. The method can include positioning the closure clip in a first closure clip position adjacent to the opening in the body tissue such that a plurality of spikes of the closure clip are inserted into the tissue at a location outward from a central axis of the opening. 摘要: The present invention provides an improved drive shaft for use in a catheter system having a rotating imaging or interventional work element. A drive shaft according to the present invention is formed at least in part of a material having super elastic properties. This material provides an advantageous combination of column strength and torsional rigidity with the ability to sustain substantial bending without permanent deformation. Preferred embodiments are formed as hollow tubes to allow electrical conducting wires to be disposed within the body of the drive shaft. Some embodiments combine relatively rigid proximal segments with relatively flexible distal segments to allow for entry of the work element into narrow and twisting regions of a patient's vascular system.

摘要: An ultrasonic imaging catheter comprises a catheter body having a distal end and a proximal end. An ultrasonic imaging transducer is located within the distal end and is arranged to produce an image in an image plane which is generally normal to the axial direction of the catheter. An ultrasonically opaque element is attached to the catheter body and disposed through the image plane so that an image artifact or marker appears on the resulting ultrasonic image. The artifact corresponds to the location on the catheter where the element is located. A fluoroscopic marker is also provided on the catheter body, typically located proximally of the region where the ultrasonic imaging transducer and other components are located. The fluoroscopic marker has a geometry selected so that the marker has a unique appearance depending on the rotational orientation of the catheter when viewed by fluoroscopy. In this way, the viewing physician may determine the actual rotational orientation of the catheter within the body lumen being viewed and may further correlate the position of the catheter with the apparent position of the ultrasonic image which has been obtained.

摘要: An apparatus for delivering a clip to close an opening through tissue includes a sheath and a carrier assembly including a clip therein that is slidable on the sheath. An actuator assembly is connectable to the sheath, and telescoping actuator members extend from the handle that are connectable to the carrier assembly for advancing the carrier assembly along the sheath. An obturator on the actuator assembly includes splines that may be deployed beyond a distal end of the sheath, and expanded to a transverse expanded configuration for positioning the sheath before deploying the clip. The actuator members include cooperating detents that selectively release the actuator members as the carrier assembly reaches predetermined positions along the sheath for deploying the clip from the carrier assembly, and that collapse the splines to allow removal of the apparatus after deploying the clip.
