A computer-assisted surgery system for planning/guiding alterations to a bone in surgery, comprises a trackable member adapted to be secured to the bone. The trackable member has a first inertial sensor unit producing orientation-based data for at least two degrees of freedom in orientation of the trackable member A positioning block is adapted to be secured to the bone, with at least an orientation of the positioning block being adjustable once the positioning block is secured to the bone to reach a selected orientation at which the positioning block is used to guide tools in altering the bone. The positioning block has a second inertial sensor unit producing orientation-based data for at least two degrees of freedom in orientation of the positioning block. A processing system providing an orientation reference associating the bone to the trackable member comprises a signal interpreter for determining an orientation of the trackable member and of the positioning block from the orientation-based data. A parameter calculator calculates alteration parameters related to an actual orientation of the positioning block with respect to the bone as a function of the orientation reference and of the orientation of the positioning block.

An axis calibrator on the tracking unit comprises a calculator for adding at least part of the gyroscope readings for specific movements of the object about a desired axis. An axis normalizer on the tracking unit determines an orientation of the desired axis with respect to the sensor unit from the added gyroscope readings. A tracking processor tracks the desired axis from the gyroscope readings. An interface displays orientation data for the object from a tracking of the desired axis. A method and apparatus are described for performing a dual-carrier operation. A first timer is initiated for an anchor carrier and a second timer is initiated for a supplementary carrier. A physical channel failure may be declared on a condition that either of the timers expire before a predefined number of in-synch indication received from a layer 1 (L1) entity is counted. Uplink transmission and enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) operations may be stopped on a supplementary carrier associated with the physical channel failure, but may be continued on an anchor carrier that has a physical channel established. If the physical channel failure is associated with the anchor carrier, uplink transmission and E-DCH transmission operations are stopped on all carriers.

The WTRU receives a high speed physical downlink shared channel (HS-PDSCH) based on decoding on the joint HS-SCCH. The HS-SCCH may include a group WTRU identity shared by a group of WTRUs.

A method and an apparatus for simultaneously receiving on two carriers and performing discontinuous transmission (DTX) and discontinuous reception (DRX) in dual cell high speed downlink packet access (DC-HSDPA) are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receives a message for activating DRX for at least one of an anchor carrier and a supplementary carrier and applies the same DRX pattern to the anchor carrier and the supplementary carrier upon reception of the message. The message may be received via a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) order. The WTRU may activate or de-activate the supplementary carrier based on the physical layer signal. Upon activation of the supplementary carrier, the WTRU may apply the same DRX pattern on both the anchor carrier and the supplementary carrier. The WTRU may flush a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) buffer associated with the supplementary carrier upon de-activation of the supplementary carrier.

Systems and method for uplink feedback for multipoint transmission of high-speed downlink packet access (MP-HSDPA) that may improve downlink transmission efficiency and cell coverage. For example, Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) and/or Precoding Control Indicator (PCI) that may be calculated to accommodate the needs of coordinated dynamic network scheduling. Additionally, various frame structures may be generated for the uplink feedback that may carry multiple CQI and HARQ-ACK feedbacks from MP-HSDPA. The frame structures may also address asynchronous downlink transmissions between two cells. Moreover, HS-DPCCH power offset settings for both CQI and HARQ-ACK fields that may be modified and/or created to ensure reliable uplink feedback transmission.
