Provided are an electronic device and method for controlling functions of the electronic device according to attachment of an external device. The electronic device includes an interface part that electrically contacts an external device, and a processor that determines, when an external device is electrically connected, whether the external device has a second power source, and controls usage of a first power source of the electronic device according to a result of the determination.

An electronic device and method for controlling the electronic device are provided. The electronic device includes a first surface in a first direction, a second surface in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a third surface enclosing at least a portion of a space formed between the first surface and the second surface. The electronic device also includes an audio module changing an audio signal input to the electronic device into an electronic signal, and a processor being operationally connected to the display and the audio module. The processor is configured to detect the audio signal input via the audio module from a first user via the first surface, detect a touch signal dragged from the third surface in the direction of the second surface, and display in the second surface a translation corresponding to the audio signal.

A multiple display device with a number of display areas, and a method of operating the device are provided. The method includes: executing a first application, and displaying the first user interface on the first image-display area; displaying text or icons related to the second application on the third image-display area; receiving a first user input for selecting an item or action via the first image-display area; receiving, after receiving the first user input, a second user input for selecting the text or the icon via the third image-display area; and displaying the second user interface on the second image-display area, in response to the second user input, and processing the item or action, using the second application. An electronic device includes at least one sensor configured to collect sensing data, a memory configured to store the sensing data, and a processor. The processor is configured to acquire first sensing data through the at least one sensor and determine a falling pattern of the electronic device based on the first sensing data, acquire second sensing data through the at least one sensor and determine a collision pattern according to falling of the electronic device based on the second sensing data, determine the type of object with which the electronic device collides based on the falling pattern and the collision pattern, and perform a preset function based on the type of the object.

As an embodiment, the electronic device may include: a circuit unit; a power supply unit connected to one surface of the circuit unit so as to form a combined body; a display configured to include a first surface in a first direction, a second surface in a second direction opposite to the first direction, and a third surface enclosing at least a portion of the space formed between the first surface and the second surface; a bracket having an opening at the center to accommodate the combined body and configured to enclose sides of the combined body; and an outer housing configured to enclose the bracket.
