Abstract: Disclosed is a method for performing a random access in a wireless communication, including identifying a channel condition and a size of a message that a user equipment will transmit after a transmission of a preamble, selecting a first preamble set from at least two preamble sets if the channel condition is greater than a first threshold and the size of the message is greater than a second threshold, selecting a preamble from the selected first preamble set if the first preamble set is selected, transmitting, to a base station, the selected preamble, receiving, from the base station, a random access response message including resource allocation information in response to the transmission of the selected preamble, and transmitting, to the base station, the message based on the resource allocation information.

Abstract: A method is provided for communicating with a User Equipment (UE) supporting a High Power Saving Reception Mode (HPSRM) mode by an evolved Node B (eNB) in a wireless communication system. The method includes receiving Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycle information from a network entity performing mobility management for the UE by the eNB communicating with the UE over a wireless link; and broadcasting system information including the DRX cycle information. The DRX cycle information is set longer than DRX cycle information of a UE non-supporting the HPSRM mode. By doing so, an efficient paging method for an UE operating in the HPSRM mode may be provided.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided in which a configuration message to configure at least one uplink carrier is received. A power headroom report (PHR) is triggered for a first uplink carrier if a predetermined event occurs. An allocation of an uplink transmission resource is detected for the PHR. It is identified whether the first uplink carrier for which a power headroom (PH) is to be determined is different from a second carrier to which the uplink transmission resource is allocated. The PH is determined based on a first pathloss associated with the first uplink carrier, if the first uplink carrier is different from the second carrier. The PHR generated based the determined PH is transmitted.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for transmitting a status report by a receiving device in a mobile communication system. A first layer, supporting an ARQ, receives a packet from a transmitting device through a second layer lower than the first layer. The first layer, supporting the ARQ, determines whether the status report is triggered based on at least one triggering condition. If the status report is triggered, based on information representative of a transmission from the second layer, the first layer, supporting the ARQ, constructs a status packet reporting a status of the received packet. The status packet is transmitted to the transmitting device.
