Abstract:
The present invention concerns a filtering medium, a method for the production thereof, the use of said filtering medium and a method for reducing the content of multiple contaminants simultaneously in fluids by means of said filtering medium, wherein said filtering medium consists of or comprises at least one of the following: a mixture (A) containing a major part of an iron-based powder and a minor part of a silver powder, an iron-silver powder alloy (B), and an iron-based porous and permeable composite containing silver (C).
Abstract:
Improved methods for coating particulate materials at low shear conditions and preferably below the melting point of the coating material are provided. In one aspect, metallurgical compositions are provided that contain a metal-based powder bound to an alloying powder or powders by way of a low melting polymer or wax binding agent, which is preferably polyethylene. The binding agent is blended with the metal-based and alloying powders at elevated temperatures preferably below the melting point of the binding agent. The bonded metallurgical composition can be used in compaction processes to manufacture compacted parts that can be sintered to impart strength.

Abstract:
An improved metallurgical powder composition comprising an iron-based powder and an alloying powder is provided. The composition contains a polyalkylene oxide having a number average molecular weight of at least about 7,000 as a binder. The binder of this invention permits the bonded powder composition to achieve compressibility equivalent to that of unbonded compositions and maintains resistance to dusting and segregation of the alloying powder.
Abstract:
Iron-based metallurgical powder compositions are produced by mixing iron-based powder with an improved binder/lubricant that comprises dibasic organic acid and one or more additional components such as solid polyethers, liquid polyethers, and acrylic resin. These novel binder/lubricants impart one or more enhanced green properties to the powder compositions and reduce the ejection force required to remove the compositions from molds and dies.
Abstract:
Methods for preparing metallurgical powders containing an organic lubricant are provided. The powders are prepared by wetting a dry admixture of an iron-based powder, at least one alloying powder, and a first organic lubricant with an organic binding agent that is preferably dissolved or dispersed in a solvent. After removal of the solvent, the dried powder composition is admixed with a second organic lubricant.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to improved metallurgical powder compositions that incorporate solid lubricants, methods for preparing and using the same, and methods of making compacted parts. The solid lubricants contain functionalized polyalkylene lubricants substituted with functional groups selected from the group consisting of a phosphate group, phosphite group, hypophosphate, hypophosphite, polyphosphate, thiophosphate, dithiophosphate, thiocarbamate, dithiocarbamate, borate, thiosulfate, sulfate group, or sulfonate group.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to improved metallurgical powder compositions that incorporate solid lubricants, methods for preparing and using the same, and methods of making compacted parts. Ejection properties, such as stripping pressure and sliding pressure, of compacted parts can be improved by using the solid lubricants. The solid lubricants contain polyalkylene-polyalkylene oxide block copolymer lubricants or a combination of polyalkylene-polyalkylene oxide block copolymer lubricants and at least one additional lubricant. The polyalkylene-polyalkylene oxide block copolymer lubricants include at least one block A of a linear or branched polyalkylene chain having from about 5 to about 500 carbon atoms, and at least one block B of an alkylene oxide chain having a formula —[O(CH2)r]m—, or —[(CH2)rO]m—. The polyalkylene block copolymer lubricants can have a formula represented as A-B or A-B-A.
