Abstract:
An improved, user-friendly silane/silica sol copolymer hardcoating composition for protecting optical plastic and other substrates (including wood, metals, glass, plastics and most coated articles) from scratching is able to be manufactured at lower costs and to provide much-improved ease of use in transportation, storage, dipbath (or other coating tank) stability, and blush resistance in ordinary cleanroom atmospheres. The silane/silica sol copolymer is formed as a direct reaction product of an acidic silica sol and monomethyltrialkoxysilane, preferably substantially monomethyltriethoxysilane, in ratios of 30:70 to 70:30, most preferably about 40:60. A tail solvent aids blush resistance, reduces internal stress and permits adhesion to unprimed polycarbonate. Optionally, colloidal silica sol dissolved in water-miscible solvent may be reacted in a second stage with acidic aqueous colloidal silica sol earlier silanized with monomethyltrialkoxysilane.
Abstract:
A bearing assembly permits one bearing bushing to be employed in both applications that permit self-aligning pivoting movement of a rotating shaft and applications that rigidly support a rotating shaft, thereby eliminating the need to inventory two different types of bearings for these two different applications.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a method for purifying sequentially synthesized peptides and oligonucleotides by immunoaffinity techniques. Selected products are lapped with an antigenic capping agent and are conjugated with antibodies that are specific for the capping agent.
Abstract:
A dispenser retains a hermetically sealed metal canister which holds a pyrophoric fluid, radar chaff, other electronic countermeasure materials or a combination thereof for ejection from an aircraft. Several openings in the canister are sealed with Pyrofuze foil material closures and a Pyrofuze wire braid is interconnected between each of the closures and the canister in close proximity to a Pyrofuze delay braid having one end thereof fixedly attached to the canister. A safety tab on one corner of the canister extends downward between the delay braid and the wire braid to prevent cross ignition until the canister is fully ejected from the dispenser. When a gas producing squib on the dispenser is fired, the Pyrofuze delay braid is ignited by the flame front from the squib and the canister is forced from the dispenser causing the safety tab to be automatically removed from the canister. This allows the delay braid to ignite the Pyrofuze wire braid which burns to each of the closures causing them to burn away thereby releasing and igniting the pyrophoric material from the canister.
Abstract:
A coupler guard configured to protect an auxiliary coupler assembly from side impacts in the rough use environment of a loader. The coupler guard comprises an encasement and a side plate. The loader comprises the auxiliary coupler assembly and a hinge extension. The encasement wraps around a top portion and interior side of the auxiliary coupler assembly. The side plate attaches to a portion of the encasement and protect an exterior side portion of the auxiliary coupler assembly. A screw assemblies selectively attaches the encasement to the side plate. A ring attaches to a portion of the side plate. The ring selectively wraps around a portion of the hinge extension of the loader. A ring screw assembly selectively holds the ring and the rest of the coupler guard to the hinge extension. An edge trim selectively sits on top of a portion of a first arm.
Abstract:
In this disclosure, techniques are described for more efficiently sharing resources across multiple virtual machine instances. For example, techniques are disclosed for allowing additional virtual machine instances to be supported by a single computing system by more efficiently allocating memory to virtual machine instances by providing page swapping in a virtualized environment and/or predictive page swapping. In one embodiment, a virtual memory manager swaps pages predicatively in and/or out of a paging pool based on information from a central processing unit (“CPU”) scheduler. In one embodiment, the CPU scheduler provides scheduling information for virtual machine instances to the virtual memory manager, where the scheduling information allows the virtual memory manager to determine when a virtual machine is scheduled to become active or inactive. The virtual memory manager can then swap-in or swap-out memory pages.
Abstract:
A combination of the following three structures in a single molecule imparts a surprisingly broad range of beneficial effects in promoting and maintaining health. First, a strongly hydrophilic moiety, either a cation or anion or a polyhydroxyl group, with two or preferably three or more hydroxyl groups. Second, a lipophilic group, such as an alkyl chain of at least 8 carbons, and preferentially more, up to 18 or even 30-odd atoms in the chain. And third, a covalently reactive group, preferably with a strong tendency for binding to biosurfaces and biomolecules such as proteins, cell membranes, and/or nucleic acids, such as an epoxide, an acid anhydride, isocyanate or other reactive group(s) as herein defined.
