    摘要: A fracture alignment and retention device includes a plurality of spanning bars which are spaced about the extremity of the patient having a fractured long bone. Preferably, the spanning bars are located circumferentially about the extremity. At least three spanning bars are held in approximately 90 degree offset positions with respect to each other by two straps encircling the extremity. The straps are secured in place by a VELCRO-type fastener or other securing devices. Each spanning bar includes at least two pressure pads which are placed on the extremity on opposite sides of the fracture. Each pressure pad includes a threaded shaft which is threadably mounted at a central portion in a fixed bushing engaged in a slot defined in an uppermost surface of the spanning bar. One end of the shaft includes a knob and the opposite end is mounted on the pressure pad for causing movement of the pressure pad toward or away from the extremity in an axial direction along the shaft without rotation of the pressure pad. Rotation of knobs located at the end of the shaft controls the amount of pressure exerted against the extremity by the pressure pads and includes an indicator for noting relative positioning of a knob prior to and after turning of the knob.

    摘要: An intramedullary rod system includes a guide rod and a tubular hollow intramedullary rod having an interior surface shaped, at least in a portion, complementary to that of the guide rod. The guide rod is first inserted through the medullary canal and then removed after sliding the tubular intramedullary rod over the guide rod. The guide rod is then aligned outside of the leg parallel to the hollow intramedullary rod for engagement at a distal end by bifurcated prongs with a drill bolt with which bifurcated prongs of the hollow intramedullary rod is simultaneously engaged. Screw holes are thereby aligned between the guide rod and the intramedullary rod at the distal end of the bone without the use of targeting. The hollow intramedullary rod is aligned with the guide rod by a lateral guide for accurate insertion through the guide rod of screws at the distal end of the hollow intramedullary rod.

    摘要: A flexible intramedullary nail is disclosed that is manufactured from a biocompatible rigid material and having a substantially cylindrical hollow body, a leading segment with an entry hole at a distal end and at least one securing means and a trailing segment having a trailing edge and an attachment mechanism. The body has at least one flexible center section, each having at least one slot to provide flexibility. In one embodiment the at least one slot follows a sinuous, serpentine path to form a plurality of interlocking teeth that can follow a helical or a concentric path. Each of the slots has a proximal end and a distal end, with the proximal end being spaced from the trailing segment and the distal end being spaced from the leading segment. When multiple slots are incorporated, the proximal end of a slot is spaced from a distal end of a subsequent slot. The first of the at least one flexible center section and a second of the at least one flexible center section can be separated by a non-slotted section. The nail can be used with a flexible insertion shaft or a locking shaft.

    摘要: The biopsy device has a biopsy channel connected to an aspiration and collecting chamber and at least one application channel connected to a dispensing chamber integrally connected with the aspiration chamber. The application channel is formed by a tube centrically slipped over the biopsy channel wall. To enable the collection of tissue specimens without tissue specimens entering and obstructing the application cannula, the distal segment of the application channel forms a close fitting and concentric sheath around the biopsy channel. The proximal end of the application channel has a larger diameter than the distal end allowing for unobstructed flow of the application material past the biopsy channel wall upon retraction of the biopsy channel from the distal segment of the application channel.
