Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for making a sheet of paper comprising at least two crimped cotton-wool-like cellulose plies (20, 40). It consists in: unwinding a first ply (20) in the form of a strip from a reel, embossing it on an embossing unit (10, 12) and forming protuberances at its surface, unwinding a second ply (40) in the form of a strip from a reel, guiding it downstream of the embossing unit (10, 12), superposing the two strips, with their protuberances facing inwards, and in applying a linking means (14, 16) so as to make the two strips integral with each other. Said method is characterised in that immediately upstream of said linking means (14, 16), a tension regulating means (18) is applied in the machine direction on one of the strips, such that the two strips have the same elastic deformation in the machine direction when the linking means is applied. The invention also concerns a product obtained by said method.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a sheet of paper made up of at least two plies of creped tissue paper, an upper ply and a lower ply, each of a surface measure ranging from 10 to 40 g/m2, the upper ply being embossed and provided with first protuberances. It is characterized in that such first protuberances are divided into rows which between them delimit cells of an area ranging from 1 to 20 cm2, the upper ply being longer in the direction of advance than the lower ply by at least 0.6% and joined to it by the apex of the first protuberances so that cushions are formed inside the cells.

Abstract:
A multi-layered paper product that has bridging regions for inhibiting nesting is provided. For example, the paper product can contain a first and second layer that define ridges and valleys. Bridging regions are formed into at least one of the outer surfaces of the layers. In particular, the bridging regions are positioned at an angle of between about 0null to about 180null relative to the ridges and also have a length sufficient to extend between the peaks of at least two of the ridges. The bridging regions can be formed in a variety of ways, such as with an embossing roll that contains embossing elements. Moreover, the bridging regions can also have a variety of shapes, sizes, orientations, and/or patterns.
Abstract:
A process for producing additive composition treated multi-ply tissue products is disclosed. In accordance with the present invention, at least one (1) ply of the tissue product is treated with an additive composition, such as a lotion. Once the additive composition is applied to the tissue product, the tissue is then hot embossed by being fed through, for example, a heated bonding nip. It has been discovered that the hot embossing step improves the adhesion between the multiple plies.
Abstract:
A method of cleaning an embossing roll used in an embossing process. The method includes steps of passing a paper web between a pair of embossing rolls and preventing or cleaning deposits from the surface of at least one embossing roll. Pressurized air is forced through an air nozzle having an elongated narrow outlet that directs the pressurized air as an air knife against the patterned surface of the embossing roll after the patterned surface rotates out of contact with the web. The air knife extends an embossing width of the embossing roll. A lubricant or solvent may be mixed with the pressurized air.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method of applying a chemical treating agent to a cellulose web. The invention is further a means of increasing the bulk, absorbency and pattern definition in an embossed cellulose web without losing softness in the web. Finally, the invention includes products produced by the foregoing processes.
Abstract:
A heated roll member especially adapted to provide a uniform temperature surface for embossing or calendering low basis weight cellulose or polymeric webs. The roll member comprises outer and inner shells with an annular chamber therebetween and apertures in the inner shell which introduce fluid into or remove fluid from the annular chamber. Specially constructed apertures, each provided with a flow diverting means, produce fully turbulent flow in a heated fluid moving axially within the annular chamber. A controlled level of turbulence in the fluid is initiated at the aperture and is maintained throughout the annular chamber, such that "hot" or "cold" areas do not develop on the surface of the outer shell.
Abstract:
A bulky paper having sufficiently high bulkiness and strength as well as a good dimensional stability is provided by inserting a plastic film between a pair of crepe papers, and passing the assembly through the nip of heated embossing rolls to cause a partial adhesion of the plastic film with the crepe papers. Thereafter, the paper may be moistened to extend the crepe and the composite heated to shrink and/or melt the film to form perforations therein. The perforations reduce the noisiness of the composite when it is used as a towel or wipe.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for producing synthetic leather comprising the manipulative steps of impregnating, drying and coagulating, shrinking, washing and finally drying a fiberous web.
