摘要: This invention provides for improvement in the preservation of cellulosic materials through solubilization of a dried metal alkoxide, particularly magnesium methoxide, in an alcohol with the presence of carbon dioxide. The solution is applied to cellulosic materials by various known methods resulting in deacidification with improved aging properties imparted to the materials. The treated cellulosic materials have improved characteristics and printed materials do not blur or run.

摘要: A transparency is disclosed, which is suitable for use in a multicolored xerographic reproduction process comprising a transparent, thermoplastic film sheet having at least one surface treated with organic amine compounds or salts thereof. The treated transparency, when used in a multicolored electrostatic copying process improves adhesion of the multicolored image thereon and permits reproduction of colors and color densities in said image which correspond well enough to the multicolored original copied.

摘要: The invention relates to a method of plating metal on a polyamide plastic such as nylon in which absorbed moisture in the plastic is at least partially removed under evaporative conditions to provide a surface having an affinity for water. The subsequent treatment of the plastic is carried out with an aqueous solution of palladium chloride at an elevated temperature of 100*-212*F. followed by an aqueous solution of stannous chloride after which the activated surface is metal plated by electroless deposition of metal.

摘要: A process for improving the wettability of the surface of a polycarbonate plastic substrate for use in tissue culture which comprises immersing the plastic substrate in acetone or ethyl acetate and subsequently washing and drying the thus-treated substrate. The substrate may be further coated with a silica gel by immersing it in a solution of sodium silicate followed by subsequent immersion in an acid, washing with water, and drying the same.

摘要: A process for metallizing a plastic or ceramic base. A pre-plate solution comprising a compound of catalytic metal, such as a palladium salt, binder material such as one or more polymers and/or polymer formers, and solvent are applied to the base and dried so as to form a polymer layer of about 20*A to about 3000*A thick which may thereafter be directly plated by contact with an electroless plating solution. The pre-plate solution has specified viscosity characteristics and concentration levels of catalytic metal compound. A tenacious plate can be obtained on a ceramic base by pyrolyzing the polymer layer and thereafter applying an electroless plating solution. A photosensitive polymer former can be used as a component of the pre-plate solution for photographically developing a plateable pattern on a substrate such as a circuit board, printing plate or the like.

摘要: A method of impregnating wood with preservatives in a treatment solution in which the wood and treating solution are subjected to a schedule including cycles of alternate phases of high pressures and low pressure wherein the pressures in the high pressure and/or low pressure phase are changed in succeeding cycles whereby the differential of pressure between the low limit of the low pressure phase or the differential of pressure between the mean of the low pressure phase and the mean of the high pressure phase is progressively increased or decreased in succeeding cycles, or the limit of the pressure in the high pressure phase is progressively increased or decreased in succeeding cycles while the differential of pressure between the high limit of the low pressure phase and the low limit of the low pressure phase remains constant, with the variation of the pressure limits and/or the variations of the differential of pressures being controlled for ensuring that aspiration or absorption of a critical amount of air from within the wood cells is not exceeded before the wood is as deeply penetrated and as heavily loaded with the preservative as is desired.

摘要: A method of making an article of highly permeable material having on at least one surface of the article an impermeable facing layer, said method comprising: forming a pattern of organic foam material; lining a surface of the organic foam material with a layer of absorbent material; impregnating the pattern and lining with a liquid slurry of ceramic material; removing surplus slurry and drying and heating the assembly to form a ceramic foam article of large-celled structure and high permeability having a layer of fine-pored structure on the surface corresponding to the surface of the organic foam which was lined with absorbent material; applying a glazing frit to the layer of fine-pored structure; and heating to cause the frit to fuse to produce an impermeable facing.

摘要: A process and solution for electroless plating of articles with a highly-stabilized electroless plating solution while maintaining high plating rates. An article having a catalytic noble metal on its surface is first electrolessly plated with a thin coating of metal plating, and is further electrolessly plated in a solution having an inhibitor concentration which prevents plating on an article having the catalytic noble metal on its surface but does not prevent plating on an article having the thin coating of plating metal.
