Abstract: A three ball pin-type coupling, having a first connector and a second connector which are non-rotatably connected. The first connector includes a three shaft pin assembly, raceway assemblies and a cage assembly. The three shaft pin assembly includes a shaft and three ball rings which surround the shaft and are arranged at intervals in the circumferential direction of the shaft. There are three raceway assemblies. Each ball ring is connected to a raceway assembly. The cage assembly defines the position of the raceway assemblies in the circumferential direction. The raceway assemblies can provide elastic force between the ball ring and the cage assembly. When the ball ring displaces relative to the cage assembly in the circumferential direction, the two sides of the raceway assemblies in the circumferential direction remain abutted against the cage assembly. A steering mechanism is also provided.

Abstract: A vehicle steering system includes an input configured to receive a signal representing a target steering angle, an output configured to provide a torque output command to a steering motor based on the target steering angle, and a torque limiter module configured to receive the torque output command and apply a torque limit thereto, prior to the torque output command being provided to the steering motor. The torque limit is configurable dynamically based on at least one vehicle parameter.

Abstract: A steering device includes two motors each configured to generate a drive force that steers a steerable wheel of a vehicle and two controllers respectively corresponding to the two motors, each of the two controllers being configured to individually control a corresponding one of the motors. One of the two controllers is a first controller, and the other one of the two controllers is a second controller. The first controller is configured to calculate a command value corresponding to a total torque that should be generated in the two motors. The command value is divided into individual command values using a changeable distribution ratio set for each of the motors, the individual command values respectively corresponding to the motors. The two controllers are configured to respectively supply the motors with current corresponding to the individual command values.

Abstract: A steering device includes: an electric motor configured to apply a driving force to cause a wheel of a vehicle to roll; a transmission unit configured to transmit the driving force of the electric motor to the wheel; an input determination unit 221 configured to determine whether an excessive external force equal to or greater than a predetermined force is input, or likely to be input, to the transmission unit via the wheel while the electric motor is applying the driving force; and a final target current setting unit 23 configured to, in response to the input determination unit 221 determining that the excessive force is input, or likely to be input, to the transmission unit, reduce the driving force of the electric motor so that a load on the transmission unit does not exceed an upper limit that is preset according to strength of the transmission unit.

Abstract: Techniques are described for managing redundant steering system for a vehicle. A method includes sending a first control command that instructs a first motor coupled to a steering wheel in a steering system to steer a vehicle, receiving, after sending the first control command, a speed of the vehicle, a yaw rate of the vehicle, and a steering position of the steering wheel, determining, based at least on the speed and the yaw rate, an expected range of steering angles that describes values within which the first motor is expected to steer the vehicle based on the first control command, and upon determining that the steering position of a steering wheel is outside the expected range of steering angles, sending a second control command that instructs a second motor coupled to the steering wheel in the steering system to steer the vehicle.

Abstract: An electronic control unit for a steer-by-wire vehicle steering system includes a data storage component that stores a desired lateral acceleration versus steering angle profile with regard to a range of vehicle speeds and a processor operably and electronically coupled with a steering wheel angle sensor and a yaw sensor. The data storage component includes electronic instructions that causes the processor to receive steering wheel angle data over a range of vehicle speeds, receive vehicle yaw data over the range of vehicle speed correlated to the steering wheel angle data, generate an observed lateral acceleration versus steering angle profile with regard to the range of vehicle speeds, and generate a steering ratio correction based on a comparison of the desired lateral acceleration versus steering angle profile and the observed lateral acceleration versus steering angle profile.
