Abstract:
An improved wind power device for wind energy conversion or vehicle propulsion. Among many possibilities contemplated, the device may have a moving sail with tethered wings (101), moving in elliptical trajectory, utilize separate sheave (503) and cable drum (505), use a block and tackle (411), attached to the tether and utilize a cable having a flexible jacket with aerodynamically streamlined cross section (603).
Abstract:
In some embodiments, the present invention includes ribbed woven materials, methods for increasing the abrasion resistance of a material, methods for providing an indication of wear, ropes configured to provide one or more alerts as a total breaking weight of a rope is approached, woven rope cover systems for rope-like materials, woven rope structures having ribs, and nonwoven ropes comprising strands including nonwoven strands of material that are configured in a rope construction and further comprising one or more woven rope cords displaced within the nonwoven rope construction.
Abstract:
An exemplary method of making a load bearing elevator traction belt includes applying individual coatings of a jacket material to each of a plurality of tension members such that each tension member is individually coated separately from the other tension members. A portion of the individual coatings are joined together to secure the tension members into a desired alignment and to form a single jacket that establishes a geometry of the belt.
Abstract:
An elevator system with a car or platform to transport passengers and/or goods as well as with a counterweight, which are arranged as traversable or movable along a travel path, and which are coupled and/or with a drive by a suspension element interrelating their motion. The suspension element is guided and/or driven by a traction sheave and/or a drive shaft and/or a deflecting pulley. The suspension element is sheathed and/or belt-type, with a first layer made of a first plasticizable and/or elastomeric material, containing a first exterior surface, and with at least one tension member—rope-type, tissue-type, or comprising a multitude of partial elements—that is embedded in the first layer of the suspension element. A manufacturing procedure for one of the suspension elements is provided.
Abstract:
A protecting device for animal restraints comprises a generally planar main piece of flexible, resilient material. The protecting device is provided with an attachment portion configured to allow selective attachment and detachment of opposite sides of the main piece to each other in order to form a generally cylindrical shape. The protecting device is further provided with an irregular outer surface.
Abstract:
A support for an elevator installation includes at least two cables of several strands each, which cables are designed for acceptance of force in a longitudinal direction, and wherein the cables are arranged along the longitudinal direction of the support at a spacing from one another and are connected by a cable casing. The cable casing has a transition region which lies between the cables and is provided with openings and webs. The webs are formed to enable a relative displacement of the cables relative to one another in the longitudinal direction.
Abstract:
Composite reinforcements (100, 100A, 100B, 100C) are formed by combining a first plurality of continuous fibers (102) with a second plurality of continuous fibers (106) with the first and second pluralities of continuous fibers (102, 106) being impregnated with at least one appropriate resin material (R1, R2, R3) and pultruded to form the reinforcements. The first and second pluralities of continuous fibers (102, 106) can be intermixed with one another or combined as a central core (104, 132) of the first fibers with a jacket (108, 108A, 108B, 134) formed by the second fibers. In either event, the combined fibers are formed as an elongated rod (110) and rigidified using the resin material. The first fibers are glass, either E-glass or S-2 glass, with the second fibers being either carbon, aramid, S-2 glass or AR-glass. The composite reinforcements of the present application, formed by combining these materials, have characteristics very similar to steel under tensile loading but with superior corrosion resistance and less detrimental deterioration characteristics.
Abstract:
A rope has a braided sheath that includes a spiraling strand having a greater pitch in comparison with a pitch exhibited by other strands of a coverbraid that encloses that rope's strength member core. The rope is useful for forming pelagic trawl mesh, and is stronger for a given amount of material, has less drag, and exhibits the same or bettered lift when towed through water at trawl mesh angles of attack. The rope also is less costly to manufacture in comparison to known helix rope costructions.

At least one tension member—rope-type, tissue-type, or comprising a multitude of partial elements—is embedded in an area of the connection plane, a majority of a surface of said at least one tension member directly contacting said first layer. A manufacturing procedure for one of the suspension elements is provided.
