摘要: A system for reading out information in a plasma display memory panel having a set of X and a set of Y electrodes is disclosed in which a forward current is conducted through unidirectional conducting devices having a charge storage effect, for example, charge storage diodes, connected to the X or Y electrodes; a read voltage is applied to one of a selected one of the Y sets of and X electrodes; a charging current due to the read voltage is conducted through the charge storage diodes in a backward direction making use of their backward recovery time; a gas discharge current, after the charging current terminates, flows in the stray capacitance of the selected X or Y electrode, raising its potential relative to the ground potential; and the potential rise is detected to thereby effect read-out of the information.

摘要: A pair of glass plates of a gaseous discharge display or memory device are held precisely spaced by two sets of identically sized overlapping spacer rods. The rods crisscross orthogonally within a sealed gas-containing chamber to create gaps through which the gas can flow without significant restriction between areas of the chamber separated by said rods. Sealing rods of glass having a softening temperature lower than that of the spacer rods are disposed like a border around the spacer rods and are of significantly greater diameter or height than the combined height of the two superposed sets of spacer rods. Initially the upper plate is supported solely by sealing rods; but upon heating of the assemblage, the sealing rod glass reflows, and the upper plate settles until it contacts the upper set of spacer rods; whereupon the assembly is cooled and the sealing rods fuse with the plates to create an impermeable chamber between the now precisely spaced plates.

摘要: An electrode structure (100) for an addressing structure using an ionizable gaseous medium has a substrate (102) and a cover (126). A plurality of channel-defining portions (116, 118, 120, 122, 124) each extend from the substrate to the cover; each pair of adjacent channel-defining portions defines a plasma discharge channel (129, 131, 133, 135, 137) for the ionizable gaseous medium. An electrode (104, 106, 108, 110, 112) extends through each channel-defining portion so that the electrode has a surface exposed to each of the channels defined in part by the channel-defining portion. Each of the channel defining portions or walls separates each electrode from the cover. An addressing structure using the electrode structure of the invention ionizes the gas in each channel by driving the electrodes of the pair of adjacent channel-defining portions that define the channel.

摘要: A nondestructive, transparent cursor for AC plasma displays may be superimposed electronically over a displayed image without regenerating the original image each time the cursor is moved. The cursor is displayed by means of a special cursor drive waveform which discharges both previously "on" and "off" cells which form the cursor but permits reversion of the cells to their original state when the cursor drive waveform is removed and the normal sustaining waveform is restored.

摘要: Discharge spots on a display device can be shifted by using the primary current effect. For the purpose of shifting the discharge spots, electrodes with a right angle to a shift direction are connected periodically to a plurality of buss to which a series of sustaining signals are supplied in a predetermined time differences. This function of shifting the discharge spots can simplify the peripheral circuit of the display device and also increase a domain of the application of this kind of display device, such as a plasma display panel.

摘要: An A. C. gas discharge display and memory device is driven with sustain pulses which operate at a frequency such that the sustain pulses terminate within the region of the gas discharge curve slightly after currents reach their maximum and flow begins to terminate. Frequencies are selected such that for the lower applied voltages, cells will not fire. To permit operation within this region of the discharge curve at frequencies which will allow deionization, relatively slow risetime sustain pulses are used. For Neon with traces of Argon at pressures between 400 to 800 Torr., alternating sustain pulses having a frequency range of from 40 to 80 K Hz and a risetime range of from 1.8 to 2.2 Mu sec. have been found to be optimum.
