Abstract: A system and method for a probe protector in a well includes a cable disposed within the well; a probe installed on an end of the cable; and a probe protector mounted on the cable conductor. The probe includes at least one lead and a cable conductor disposed on a distal end of each of the at least one lead. The probe protector is removably connected over the cable conductor. The probe protector is removed from the cable conductor prior to insertion of the cable into the well.

Abstract: Communication networks, relay nodes for communication networks, and methods of transmitting data among a plurality of relay nodes utilizing non-dispersive guided acoustic waves are disclosed herein. The communication networks include an elongate tubular body and a wireless data transmission network including a plurality of relay nodes. The relay nodes include an electro-acoustic transmitter array and an electro-acoustic receiver. The methods include inducing a first acoustic wave within the elongate tubular body with a first relay node, conveying the first acoustic wave along the elongate tubular body to a second relay node, and receiving the first acoustic wave with the second relay node. The methods further include inducing a second acoustic wave within the elongate tubular body with the second relay node, conveying the second acoustic wave along the elongate tubular body to a third relay node, and receiving the second acoustic wave with the third relay node.

Abstract: In a drill bit which has hard-faced cutting or gauge protection elements positioned to be in direct contact with subterranean formation as the bit is rotated, at least one of these elements includes a window positioned to be in direct contact with the formation or cuttings from the formation as the bit rotates and moves forward to drill into the formation. Electromagnetic radiation with wavelength in the range from 100 nm to 2600 nm is transmitted through the window to the formation in contact with the window. Electromagnetic radiation such as fluorescence that returns through the same window is received by a spectrometer. The source and receiver of electromagnetic radiation are both accommodated within the downhole drilling equipment but spaced from the windowed element. The electromagnetic radiation travels along light guides from the source to the window and from the window to the receiver.

Abstract: A drilling system includes an internal assembly comprising a chassis, a flow diverter, or both, and a strain gauge coupled to the chassis, the flow diverter, or both, in which the strain gauge is configured to output a signal associated with a strain deformation of the internal assembly. The drilling system also includes a drill collar coupled to the internal assembly, in which the internal assembly extends along the drill collar, and the drill collar encloses the internal assembly of the internal assembly such that a strain deformation of the drill collar causes the strain deformation of the internal assembly.

The system includes a sensor sub connected below a top drive of the tubular handling system; one or more sensors within the sensor sub, for measuring, in the form of electrical signals, operational parameters; one or more low-power integrated circuits within the sensor sub, for receiving electrical signals from the sensors and digitizing the signals; two or more radio frequency (RF) transmitters located in the sensor sub, for transmitting the digitized signals; one or more commercially available lithium batteries within the sensor sub and remote receiver hub located remote from the tubular handling system and including a remote antenna for receiving the digitized signals from the two or more RF transmitters; one or more processing units for processing received digitized signals into engineering units for each of the operational parameters; and an input/output data connection for communicating operational parameters to an operator.

Abstract: Embodiments provide an expandable meshed component for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well. The expandable meshed component includes an uphole radial portion, an intermediate radial portion, a downhole radial portion, an outer meshed wall, and an inner meshed wall. The expandable meshed component has a density less than a fluidic component occupying the space. A method for guiding an untethered measurement device used in a subterranean well includes deploying a compressed expandable meshed component tethered to the untethered measurement device, disconnecting the compressed expandable meshed component and the untethered measurement device, and releasing a sleeve surrounding the compressed expandable meshed component such that the expandable meshed component expands, ascends, and fits into an annulus.
