摘要: A circuit breaker includes an electromechanical switch, a current sensor, a voltage sensor, and a processor. The electromechanical switch is serially connected between a line input terminal and a load output terminal of the circuit breaker, and configured to be placed in a switched-closed state or a switched-open state. The current sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of current flowing in a path between the line input and load output terminals and generate a current sense signal. The voltage sensor is configured to sense a magnitude of voltage at a point on the path between the line input and load output terminals and generate a voltage sense signal. The processor is configured to receive and process the current sense signal and the voltage sense signal to determine operational status information of the circuit breaker and determine power usage information of a load connected to the load output terminal.

摘要: A sliding power contact and method includes a mobile load device connector and a socket. The mobile load device connector includes a non-current power pin having a first length, a current power pin having a second length less than the first length, a neutral pin, and a ground pin. The socket includes a non-current power contact configured to electrically couple with the non-current power pin, a current power contact configured to electrically couple with the current power pin, a neutral contact configured to electrically couple with the neutral pin, and a ground pin configured to electrically couple with the ground pin. An arc suppressor is directly coupled to at least one of the non-current power pin and the non-current power contact, wherein the arc suppressor, the non-current power pin and the non-current power contact form a current path between the current power pin and the current power contact.

摘要: A circuit breaker includes at least one moveable contact. The moveable electrode is operably connected to a Thomson coil actuator that can separate and open the contacts of the circuit breaker. A sensor senses current or voltage in the circuit breaker. When a condition exists that triggers an opening action, a controller will use select a current level to apply to the Thomson coil actuator. The selected current level will vary based on the sensed current or voltage level. The controller will cause a driver to apply the selected current level to the Thomson coil actuator, and it will cause the contacts to separate and open. If the circuit breaker is a vacuum interrupter, the vacuum interrupter may employ a multi-section bellows in which each section has unique structural characteristics as compared to the other sections, so that different sections will dominate as the Thomson coil's speed of operation varies.

摘要: Disclosed are example embodiments of a dead tank circuit breaker for protecting electrical components against electrical surges and other voltage anomalies such as transient overvoltages. The circuit breaker includes: one or more vacuum interrupters; a current bypass circuit electrically coupled to the one or more vacuum interrupters; a dead tank encasing and hermetically sealing the one or more vacuum interrupters and the current bypass circuit, wherein the dead tank is pressurized with a non-SF6 gas; and a controllable mechanism coupled to the one or more vacuum interrupters and to the current bypass circuit. The controllable mechanism is configured to actuate the one or more vacuum interrupters and the current bypass circuit to open or close a main circuit path such that any pre-strike arcing occurs on the current bypass circuit instead of the one or more vacuum interrupters.

摘要: An earthing switch circuit is provided and is connected to a direct current (DC) link including a positive terminal and a negative terminal having capacitance or energy storage capability. The earthing switch circuit includes a dynamic braking circuit having a single or plurality of dynamic braking (DB) switches, and at least one dynamic braking (DB) resistor disposed between the plurality of DB switches, and an earthing switch connected between the DB circuit and ground. The at least one DB resistor dissipates energy thermally when performing a dynamic braking operation and simultaneously decreases in-rush current for the earthing switch circuit upon closure of the earthing switch.

In one embodiment, a direct current relay comprises a pair of fixed contactors and a movable contactor which is moved up and down by an actuator to come into contact with or be separated from the pair of fixed contactors, comprises: a mover support disposed below the movable contactor and connected to the actuator by a shaft; a mover holder disposed above the movable contactor and fixed to the mover support; an upper yoke and a lower yoke disposed above and below the movable contactor to generate an electromagnetic force, respectively; and a contact pressure spring disposed between the lower yoke and the mover support, wherein the upper yoke and the lower yoke form a magnetic path to offset an electron repulsive force generated between the fixed contactors and the movable contactor.
