Abstract:
A discharge lamp of the short arc type with high arc stability in which the arc is prevented from fluctuating during operation is achieved by providing a short arc discharge lamp in which the hermetically sealed tubes which extend from the arc tube, and the lead pins located within the arc tube which support the electrodes, are sealed relative to one another by graded glass, and wherein cylindrical retaining bodies are attached concentrically within the hermetically sealed tubes and are penetrated by the lead pins, a metal foil that has several cambers which extend in the axial direction of the lamp being located between the cylindrical retaining bodies and the lead pins.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method and apparatus for a single ended discharge light source. In one embodiment, both leads of a discharge lamp enter from the same side of the lamp. In one embodiment, the leads pass through a base. A bulb is positioned over the base to form a lamp wherein both leads enter the lamp from the same end. In one embodiment, the base is made of glass. In another embodiment, the bulb is made of glass. In one embodiment, the thermal expansion coefficient of the bulb and the base are greater than 1.0*10null -6/K. In another embodiment, the thermal expansion properties of the material used for the leads closely matches the material used for the base. In one embodiment, the power of the discharge lamp is less than 50 watts. In another embodiment, the end of the bulb furthest from the base is a lens.
Abstract:
A ceramic arc tube assembly and a method for making a ceramic arc tube are described which simplify the manufacture of ceramic arc tubes by reducing the number of handling and heat treatments required to assemble arc tubes prior to the final sintering operation. In particular, the invention uses transient assembly buttons during intermediate assembly steps which are removed prior to the final sintering operation.
Abstract:
An arc tube and method of fabricating the arc tube for a discharge lamp. The arc tube includes an arc tube main body 10 at which a sealed glass bulb 12 serving as a discharge portion sandwiched by pinch seal portions is formed at a portion of a glass tube W along the longitudinal direction thereof, and a cylindrical shroud glass 20 which is welded on and integrated with the arc tube main body 10 so as to cover the sealed glass bulb 12, the front and rear end portions of the shroud glass 20 may be joined, for example, by welding on shroud glass welded portions with circular cross sections provided at the front and rear end sides of the arc tube main body 10, respectively. The inner peripheral surface of the diameter reduced portion of the shroud glass tube 20, which is molten, soften and deformed inside along the radial direction, contacts closely to the circular outer peripheral surface on the arc tube main body 10 side, so that a space can not be formed at the welding portion of the shroud glass 20 (adhesion surface). Thus, the atmosphere does not enter into the sealed space 24 surrounded by the shroud glass 20, and accordingly, devitrification is prevented.
Abstract:
A discharge lamp includes a luminous bulb in which a luminous material is enclosed and a pair of electrodes are opposed in the luminous bulb; and a pair of sealing portions for sealing a pair of metal foils electrically connected to the pair of electrodes, respectively. At least one of the pair of metal foils has a twist structure.
Abstract:
A short arc lamp with a high lamp sustaining voltage in which there is no crack formation in the corner areas of the faces of shrunken regions of a side tube and of cylindrical retaining bodies for upholding parts of the electrodes, even if the gas pressure is high during operation is obtained, in a short arc lamp in which arc tube has a cathode and an anode disposed opposite one another, and in which the upholding parts of the cathode and anode are inserted and held in cylindrical retaining bodies which are supported in the shrunken regions of side tubes connected to the arc tube, by intermediate layers of metal or ceramic being located between the cylindrical retaining bodies and the shrunken regions, and by the cylindrical retaining bodies and the shrunken regions not being welded to one another into a single part.
Abstract:
A discharge lamp includes a luminous bulb in which a luminous material is enclosed and a pair of electrodes are opposed to each other in the luminous bulb; and a pair of sealing portions for sealing a pair of metal foils electrically connected to the pair of electrodes, respectively. Each of the pair of metal foils has an external lead on a side opposite to a side electrically connected to a corresponding electrode of the pair of electrodes. At least one of the pair of sealing portions is provided with a reflective film on a surface of the sealing portion in a portion where a connection portion of the external lead and the metal foil is sealed. The reflective film contains a material having a reflectance larger than that of a material constituting the sealing portion.
Abstract:
