    摘要: A demodulator demodulates a PSK communications signal using a synchronizer, a period window detector, and a logic device. The synchronizer provides a transition signal representing reference edges of the communication signal. The period window detector, coupled to the synchronizer, establishes a time interval based on the period of the transition signal. Finally, the logic device, having logic inputs coupled to the outputs of the period-window detector, yields a logic output signal. The demodulator preferably includes a carrier boundary detector for framing messages and minimizing noise detection in a manner that permits signal strength measurements over a wide dynamic range.

    摘要: A reference carrier generator device includes a phase error detection unit which detects a phase error between a reference carrier and a carrier of a quadrature modulated wave and outputs a phase error signal indicating the phase error. A loop filter passes the phase error signal from the phase error detection unit through the loop filter and converts the phase error signal into a control voltage. A voltage-controlled oscillator outputs a reference carrier synchronous with the carrier of the quadrature modulated wave based on the control voltage. A sweep unit changes the control voltage output to the oscillator when pulling the reference carrier into synchronism in response to an out-of-sync alarm signal. The sweep unit outputs a staircase sweep signal having a selected level, the sweep signal being added to the phase error signal such that the control voltage output to the oscillator is changed by the staircase sweep signal.

    摘要: Proposed is a switchable loop filter structure which allows a dual mode operation. A low bandwidth mode is used during acquisition of a channel. In case of high rate reception the low bandwidth synthesizer loop is combined with a high bandwidth carrier recovery loop. This combination allows steps of the synthesizer which are tracked in the carrier recovery loop. The tuner steps are used to compensate input signals frequency drift. An algorithm is proposed which allows acquisition in a low synthesizer loop bandwidth mode and switching to a high bandwidth synthesizer loop mode while maintaining frequency lock. This allows the use of a high bandwidth synthesizer loop and a low bandwidth carrier recovery loop. This combination is best for reception of low rate input signals. The synthesizer loop compensates for residual FM of the tuner Local Oscillator.

The telephone includes a first frequency synthesizer for generating a reference frequency, a receiver having a first mixer for mixing the reference frequency with an input frequency to generate a first intermediate frequency and a second mixer to generate a second intermediate frequency, and a transmitter having a third mixer to generate a transmission frequency. The device includes: a band switching controller for receiving an inverse channel selection signal; and a second frequency synthesizer for generating third and fourth intermediate frequencies to the second and third mixers, respectively, according to a channel selection signal for setting transmission and reception modes. The second frequency synthesizer includes: a voltage controlled oscillator for generating a frequency according to a charge pump voltage applied at an input of the oscillator; a loop filter for shaping the charge pump voltage being applied to the input of the voltage controlled oscillator; and a phase locked loop for comparing the reference frequency with a frequency output from the voltage controlled oscillator to generate a voltage according to a phase difference therebetween to the input of the voltage controlled oscillator via the loop filter. The band switching controller maintains an input voltage of the voltage controlled oscillator upon receiving the inverse channel selection signal.

    摘要: An improved digital decision directed phase locked loop (DD-PLL) for use with short block codes using phase shifting keying (PSK) modulation. The improvement involves a conventional digital phase lock loop which is modified to base its loop corrections on the results obtained by decoding the short block code rather than on a symbol by symbol basis as is customary in conventional DD-PLLs. The improved method of loop corrections involves retaining the symbol data pending the decoder's decision, derotating the retained data in accordance with the decoded result, and integrating the derotated data to form a composite estimator upon which to base the loop correction. In its preferred embodiment, the invention uses an (8, 4) biorthogonal code with quatenary PSK.
