Abstract: The invention relates to a gel-spun fiber comprising an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), wherein the UHMWPE has an intrinsic viscosity (IV) of at least 4 dL/g and comprises at least 0.3 short chain branches per thousand total carbon atoms (SCB/1000TC), characterized in that the fiber further comprises between 0.1 and 10 parts by weight of carbon black based on 100 parts by weight of the amount of the polyethylene forming the fiber. The invention further relates to a yarn comprising at least 5 such gel-spun fibers as well as to articles comprising said fibers or yarns.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a radiation-curable aqueous coating composition comprising a polyurethane A comprising as building blocks at least: (a) a polyisocyanate(s) containing at least one cyclic group, (b) a non-cyclic aliphatic diisocyanate(s) whereby the non-cyclic aliphatic group connecting the two isocyanate groups has 5 carbon atoms, and (c) a component(s) containing an isocyanate-reactive group(s), whereby the summed amount of (a) and (b) is 10 to 60 wt. %, relative to the total weight amount of components used to prepare the polyurethane A; and optionally radiation-curable diluent; whereby the weight ratio between (a) and (b) is in the range from 50:50 to 99:1; and whereby the ethylenically unsaturated bond concentration of the coating composition is in the range from 0.5 to 6 milliequivalents per g of polyurethane A and radiation-curable diluent.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of a high strength transparent high density polyethylene article comprising the steps of (i) heating a high density polyethylene (HDPE) to a temperature above the melting temperature (Tm) of the HDPE; (ii) molding the heated HDPE obtained in step (i) to form a hot molded HDPE article; (iii) cooling the hot molded HDPE article to a temperature below Tm to form a melt-crystallized HDPE article; (iv) stretching the melt-crystallized HDPE article to a total draw ratio of at least 5 comprising at least one stretching step of the article at a temperature T1 below the melting temperature Tm to a draw ratio (DR1) of at least 2 to form an oriented HDPE article, wherein the HDPE has a melt flow index (MFI) measured at 21.6 kg and 190° C. according to ASTM D1238 of at most 1.5 g/I Omin, an isotropic density measured according to ISO 1 183-1 A of at most 0.955 g/cm3 and a Tm measured according to ISO 1 1357-3 of greater than 130° C. The invention also relates to high strength transparent HDPE articles and products comprising the high strength transparent HDPE article such as ballistic resistant articles, visors, car parts, train parts, plane parts, windshields, windows and radomes.
