Abstract:
An activated carbon, disclosed as useful in purification and decolorization of hydrocarbon fuel, particularly gasoline, is characterized by inclusion therein of polymerized phosphoric acid or reduced transition metals. Phosphoric acid may be added to a non-phosphoric acid-activated carbon (such as steam activated coal-based) prior to the subsequent heat treatment or one can take advantage of residual phosphoric acid present in, for example, a phosphoric acid-activated wood-based carbon. Similarly, transition metals such as copper may be added to an activated carbon in a salt form in addition to whatever is already present therein as impurities. The conversion of phosphoric acid to a polymerized phosphate content or reduction of transition metals to a reduced form results from the activated carbon having been treated with inert gas or carbon dioxide at from about 1200° F. to about 1800° F. for at least 5 minutes. Alternatively, the conversion of phosphoric acid to a polymerized phosphate content can occur during phosphoric acid activation of carbon at activation temperatures in the range of 1150°-1600° F.
Abstract:
Novel forms of adsorbent media and, more specifically, novel forms of sub-micron adsorbent media are disclosed that can be coated onto substrates and adsorb vapor-phase contaminants. Such media is disclosed to be activated carbon, which is combined with a dispersant and defoamer, milled to a sub-micron particle size, and mixed with a wax and a binder.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and compositions for controlling gastrointestinal parasitic infections in animals. More specifically, the invention involves the use of sericea lespedeza (Lespedeza cuneata), commonly referred to as Chinese bush clover, in the diet of animals to control nematodal gastrointestinal infections.
Abstract:
A system for suspending a free-hanging shade material in an architectural opening includes a panel of shade material and brackets that can be mounted to the top edge of the framework around the architectural opening even when the top edge is not straight or horizontally disposed. The top edge of the panel has reinforcement strips operatively connected thereto which are releasably connected to the brackets. The system is useful in conventional rectangular architectural openings or openings of unusual shapes and sizes such as semi-circular or having an inclined top edge.
Abstract:
A method of suppressing or curbing appetite and treating or preventing obesity comprising administering to a human or other mammal in need of such treatment an effective amount of plant material derived or derivable from plants of the genera Stapelia and Orbea.
Abstract:
A thermally conductive polymer composition having enhanced mechanical properties is provided. The polymer composition consists of a base polymer matrix loaded with fillers that results in a thermal conductivity that is greater than 1.5 W/m°K and a tensile modulus within an acceptable range making the composition suitable for structural plastic applications, such as between 1,700 to 12,000 Mpa and more preferably between approximately 2,700 to 10,000 Mpa and even more preferably in the range of between approximately 4,000 to 9,000 Mpa. In addition to a tensile modulus within the identified range the composition also includes an elongation to break value that is at least above 1.0% and more preferably in the range of about 1.2% to 10%.
Abstract:
The hollow plastic container includes a side wall with at least three inwardly depressed channels spaced from each other and extending around the side wall, with an upper channel, a central channel and a lower channel. At least two spaced apart vacuum panels are positioned between the upper and central channel, and at least two spaced apart vacuum panels are positioned between the central channel and lower channel.
Abstract:
The plastic container includes a hollow body of plastic material having a lower supporting base, a sidewall extending upwardly from the lower base and an upper neck portion extending upwardly from the sidewall with an opening therein. The sidewall includes at least one panel having a central region and an outer boundary, with the outer boundary being depressed with respect to the central region.
Abstract:
A wireless communication method and system for controlling an enhanced uplink (EU) radio access bearer (RAB). The wireless communication system includes at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), at least one Node-B and a radio network controller (RNC). The RNC configures an EU RAB to operate on an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH). At least one of the WTRU and the Node-B report EU traffic statistics and EU performance statistics to the RNC. The RNC then adjusts the configuration of the EU RAB in accordance with the received EU traffic statistics, the EU performance statistics, and information collected by the RNC itself.
Abstract:
A photoionization detector includes a housing, electrical contacts within the housing and an easily removable and replaceable photoionization chamber within the housing. The photoionization chamber includes a cathodic electrode and an anodic electrode which may be coated with a thin layer of material. The photoionization chamber and the associated cathodic electrode and anodic electrode are removable from within the housing as a unit. The photoionization chamber makes electrical connection with the contacts when seated within the housing regardless of the orientation of the photoionization chamber about an axis.
