Abstract: Systems and methods for improving displayed image quality of an electronic display including a display pixel that displays an image frame based at least in part on an analog electrical signal supplied to the display pixel are provided. In some embodiments, control circuitry instructs the electronic display to display the image frame based at least in part on an expected charge accumulation in the display pixel determined using a charge accumulation model that describes one or more electric fields expected to be present in the display pixel when displaying the image frame and that provides a display pixel state indicative of expected charge accumulation in the display pixel when the image frame is to be displayed based at least in part on the one or more electric fields.

Abstract: An electronic device may generate content that is to be displayed on a display. The display may have an array of liquid crystal display pixels for displaying image frames of the content. The image frames may be displayed with positive and negative polarities to help reduce charge accumulation effects. A charge accumulation tracker may analyze the image frames to determine when there is a risk of excess charge accumulation. The charge accumulation tracker may analyze information on gray levels, frame duration, and frame polarity. The charge accumulation tracker may compute a charge accumulation metric for entire image frames or may process subregions of each frame separately. When subregions are processed separately, each subregion may be individually monitored for a risk of excess charge accumulation.

Abstract: A mobile electronic device includes a display having a pixel and processing circuitry separate from but communicatively coupled to the display. The processing circuitry prepares image data to send to the pixel and adjusts the image data to compensate for operational variations of the display based on feedback received from the display that describes a present operational behavior of the pixel. The mobile electronic device also includes additional electronic components that affect the present operational behavior of the pixel depending on present operational behavior of the additional electronic components.

Abstract: Methods and systems for compensating for VCOM variations include determining a voltage change in pixels between frames to be displayed on an electronic display. Based on the determined voltage change, VCOM variation is calculated based on coupling the VCOM to one or more data lines of the electronic display. VCOM compensation is determined and applied to offset for the VCOM variation. Using the VCOM offset, subsequent pixel content for the one or more pixels is written using the compensated VCOM.

Abstract: This application relates to methods and apparatus for refreshing a display device at various frequencies. Specifically, multiple areas of the display device can be refreshed concurrently at different frequencies. In this way, when static content is being displayed in certain areas of the display device, those certain areas can be refreshed at a lower rate than areas displaying dynamic content such as video or animation. By refreshing at lower rates, the energy consumed by the display device and subsystems associated with the display device can be reduced. Additionally, processes for reducing flicker when refreshing the display device at different refresh rates are disclosed herein.

Abstract: Devices and methods for reducing and/or substantially eliminating pixel charge imbalance due to variable refresh rates are provided. By way of example, a method includes providing a first frame of image data via a processor to a plurality of pixels of the display during a first frame period corresponding to a first refresh rate, and providing a second frame of image data to the plurality of pixels of the display during a second frame period corresponding to a second refresh rate. The method further includes dividing the first frame period into a first frame sub-period and a second frame sub-period, and driving the plurality of pixels of the display with the first frame of image data during the first frame sub-period and the second frame sub-period.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to systems and methods for reducing VCOM settling periods. A number of pixels is sub-divided into a plurality of regions. The pixels are configured to transmit light. A common voltage (VCOM) driving circuit is configured to drive a common electrode of the pixels. Moreover, each of a number of VCOM driving circuits includes a variable resistor configured to be driven to a resistance level based at least in part on which region of the plurality of regions includes an active pixel within the region. Abstract: This application relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for optimizing the operations of a power converter of a display panel based on image data to be output by the display panel. The power converter can include one or more switches that can be activated or deactivated based on the image data in order to shift a power efficiency of the power converter. Power efficiency is shifted as a result of balancing an amount of charge necessary for a load with an amount of resistance created when activating switches of the power converter. Therefore, by dynamically altering a configuration of a power converter based on image data, power efficiency of the power converter can be improved.

Abstract: An electronic device may include a display having an array of display pixels and having display control circuitry that controls the operation of the display. The display control circuitry may adaptively adjust the display output based on ambient lighting conditions. For example, in cooler ambient lighting conditions such as those dominated by daylight, the display may display neutral colors using a relatively cool white. When the display is operated in warmer ambient lighting conditions such as those dominated by indoor light sources, the display may display neutral colors using a relatively warm white. Adapting to the ambient lighting conditions may ensure that the user does not perceive color shifts on the display as the user's vision chromatically adapts to different ambient lighting conditions. Adaptively adjusting images in this way can also have beneficial effects on the human circadian rhythm by displaying warmer colors in the evening.
