A power door for a transit vehicle includes a door panel, a base and hanger unit, a door support, a drive member and a motor. The door support is attached to the door panel and includes at least one roller which engages a hanger portion of the base and hanger unit for motion along the base and hanger unit. The hanger portion includes a longitudinal cavity and a slot communicating with the cavity. The drive member is disposed within the cavity and a drive member connector passes through the slot to connect the drive member to the door support.
Abstract:
A window for use in buildings or other enclosed areas is structured to open horizontally relative to the building or window casement and comprises a screen-like enclosure between the window casement and the window frame which limits the amount of moisture or dust that can enter through the window when in an open position. Further, the window is particularly structured to provide light, ventilation and an unobstructed view while providing a high degree of security to prevent breakage or burglary.

A powered operator for sliding plug doors mounted on a movable carriage mounted overhead of an opening in the side wall of a transit vehicle, said doors including a single electric prime mover driving dual helical drives, each operating a door hanger attached to a single door panel over and away from said opening and for moving said carriage out of said side wall pocket. Door hangers used provide controlled deflection of door panels when in a fully open position. Drive linkages lock door panels when in a plugged position. The operator also provides guidance for the lower edge of said door panels during plugging and unplugging operations. Control elements and a central controller provides sequential door panel movement into and out of a pocket in the transit car side wall.
Abstract:
A mechanism for the powered opening and closing of household panels such as windows and doors comprises a worm drive screw, small enough to be mounted within and along the upper track of a sliding panel. A nut threaded on the drive screw moves axially along the screw when the screw is rotated. Motion of the nut is transmitted to the panel by means of a coupling bolt, slidingly mounted within a cavity in the top of the panel. The bolt slides up to engage the nut for powered operation, and slides down to disengage from the nut during manual operation. The position of the bolt can be secured through locking means. A resilient, dielectric transmission accouplement between the drive screw and the motor provides electrical and vibrational isolation, and scalability. A second extendible bolt mounted on an opposite end of the frame hinders pitch deflection of the panel during powered operation. Worm gearing and a solenoid based brake locks the motor and the position of the nut when no power is applied.

A roller mechanism for a sliding door that slides along a lower track. The roller mechanism includes a rigid bracket member so that it may be attached to a sliding door, a roller housing that contains a roller and that is vertically adjustable within the bracket member, and lower track engaging means that are releasably retained within the lower track. The lower track engaging means comprises a pair of leading and a pair of following track retainers. One of the leading and one of the following track retainers are rigid and capable of supporting the sliding door when the roller is removed from the lower track while the other of the leading and following track retainers are flexibly resilient such that they may be displaced to allow for the insertion and removal of the lower track engaging means into and out of the lower track.

A garage door operator is disclosed to have a front coupling for a threaded screw of the operator and the rotor of the motor. The coupling includes a first coupling device that is a unitary coupling member with opposing recesses for receiving each of the rotor shaft and an end portion of the screw. The unitary coupling member thereby connects the screw to the motor for torque transmission from the motor. The second coupling device includes a thrust containment device that is supported on the screw, and an intermediate assembly disposed between the thrust containment device and an end portion of the guide rail of the door operator. A retainer component of the intermediate assembly restricts expansion of the thrust containment device.

An open-and-close control device for a horizontally slidable vehicle door fitted with a lock that includes a horizontal endless screw rotatably, movably held within a rail fixed to a vehicle body adjacent the vehicle door, and adapted to be rotated by a rotary electric motor. The horizontal endless screw engages a threaded aperture in a slide translationally movable in the rail, wherein the slide is connected by a single connecting rod to an inner arm positioned on the vehicle door. The arm is oriented towards an inside of the vehicle body such that the single connecting rod is at an angle of less than about 25.degree. to the horizontal endless screw. Opening the vehicle door is initiated by a substantially outward transverse translation of at least part of the vehicle door.

Rotary locks used on transit vehicle doors when opened and closed by a rotating helical door drive member. In a preferred embodiment, a first lock utilizes a negative thread portion of the helical drive. A second lock utilizes a rotating lock pawl and stop. The drive and lock can be used to operate door systems with and without separate door hangers. Compensation for camber variations in car structure is provided through the use of spherical mounts or drive member journals.

Broadside displacement of sliding patio doors from their building framework for removal from the threshold track upon lifting of the doors in attempts at unauthorized entry is prevented with the use of downwardly-extending leg portions at each side of the door roller wheel assemblies, which leg portions extend downwardly of each side of an upstanding threshold track projection upon which the roller wheels ride. In one embodiment of the invention, the roller wheel assembly leg portions terminate in mutually inwardly-directed hook portions received in slightly spaced relation below rectangular shoulders defined by a rounded head formed along the upper end of the upstanding track projection, thereby preventing removal of the roller wheel assemblies from the threshold track for unauthorized entry.

An automatic radio actuated mechanism for opening and closing panels, such as a garage door, makes use of an electric motor to rotate a specially constructed spiral drive screw and move a traveler along a track, the traveler being connected to the door to pull the door open or push the door shut. Included in the mechanism is a camming arrangement for precisely adjusting the full open and full closed positions by action of an electronic circuit which activates the motor. For reversing the operating direction of door movement in the event such movement should be obstructed, the motor housing is mounted in a manner allowing it when restrained to swing for a limited distance, one way or the other, thereby to actuate a switch in the electronic circuit for reversing movement of the door.
