Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for producing core-sheath structures by shaping at least one filament bundle containing a plurality of filaments to form at least one shaped strand of filaments, and braiding a plurality of strands, including the at least one shaped strand of filaments, over a core to form the core-sheath structure containing a braided sheath of the strands surrounding the core, wherein the shaped strand of filaments is an untwisted strand having a twist level of less than 1 turn per meter, a cross-sectional aspect ratio of the shaped strand of filaments is at least 3:1, as measured in the braided sheath, a thickness of at least a portion of the braided sheath ranges from about 10 to about 200 μm, and the braided sheath comprises a synthetic fiber having a tensile strength of greater than 12 cN/dtex. Also disclosed herein are core-sheath structures formed by such methods.

Abstract: A suture made of a woven braid of fibers is provided. The suture includes: at least one first end; at least one second end comprising a colorable material wherein the second end has been colored a single color along an entire length of the second end; and at least one third end comprising a colorable material wherein only a portion of the third end is colored a continuous color. In another embodiment, a method of manufacture of a suture is provided. The method includes: braiding an elongate suture from a first end, a second end comprising a colorable material, and a third end comprising a colorable material; coloring the second end a single first color along an entire length of the second end; coloring only a first portion of the third end a second color.

Abstract: Disclosed is a tow warp construction and a process for forming such tow warp construction where such tow warp construction has a longer life span, that is retains its useful dimensions and characteristics longer than known tow warp constructions and consequently has a longer useful life span than known tow warp constructions. Most broadly the construction of the tow warp construction of the present disclosure and process for forming such includes gradually and progressively introducing fibers from a second group of fibers (or “second group of linear elements”) into an otherwise conventional stranding process where fibers from a first group of fibers (or “first group of linear elements”) are being stranded to form strands (or “third group of linear elements”), so as to either or both increase the diameter of the strands and/or substitute the first group of fibers by fibers from the second group of fibers, so as to: a) in the first instance, increase the diameter of the formed strands and subsequently of a strength member formed of the strands, especially for increasing the diameter and strength of the tow warp's strength member in and about the splice braid zone where it connects to a towed object such as a paravane; and b) in the second instance, substitute in a predetermined region on the long dimension of the strands and subsequently in a predetermined region on a long dimension of a strength member formed of the strands fibers of higher creep and/or lower melting points by fibers of lower creep and/or higher melting points, especially for increasing the resistance of the tow warps strength member to bending fatigue.

Abstract: Provide is a braided wire manufacturing method and a braided wire manufacturing apparatus which can produce a braided wire accurately braided without distortion. In a braided wire manufacturing apparatus, a plurality of conductive wires fed from a wire feeding mechanism are braided into a braided wire from a convergence position after passing through a mesh hole die, and the braided wire after passing along a guide roller is wound up using a capstan unit. The guide roller has a guide width for horizontal direction restriction so that movement of the braided wire in the horizontal direction falls within a predetermined restriction width from an ideal center position. The guide roller is provided at a height of a braid pitch of the braided wire in the perpendicular direction from the convergence position as a second feature.

Abstract: A line for use in angling sports, such as fly fishing, comprises a braid formed of polytetrafluorethylene (PTFE) strands and polyethylene (PE) strands. The PTFE strands and the PE strands are arranged such that in a rest position, an outer surface of the braid is defined by both the PTFE strands and the PE strands and when the braid is placed under tension, the outer surface of the braid is defined at least substantially by the PTFE strands due to bulging of the PTFE strands relative to the PE strands.

Abstract: An improved top down furling system includes one or more improved components. A lower rotary drive unit with a rotary tack swivel rotates against a fixed portion of the furler, or is configured to permit routing of the tack line below the unit. The system may include an anti-torsion cable constructed in a manner so as to be able to transmit torque without excessive tension applied to the cable. The system also may include an end terminal of the anti-torsion cable having a quick side mount or bayonet type connection to the rotary drive unit.
