Abstract:
A system and method is provided for reliably detecting the file type of a client-requested file and by-passing conventional ICAP processing if the detected file type corresponds to a non-viral file. The client-requested file is examined to determine whether it contains a predefined byte pattern (or “file signature”) corresponding to a non-viral file type. The file signature may be embodied as one or more predetermined “magic bytes” located at known file offsets. For instance, the client-requested file may be identified as a particular type of image file if it contains the set of magic bytes associated with that image file format. Unlike prior implementations, when the client-requested file is determined to contain magic bytes corresponding to a non-viral file type, such as an image file, the file is returned to the requesting client without performing conventional ICAP virus-scanning operations.
Abstract:
A portable paint testing apparatus has a cylindrical reservoir for containing a test solvent characterized by having an extended life. First and second porous, absorbent nibs are mounted at the ends of the reservoir, and are exposed to the solvent. One of the nibs is light in color for testing dark painted surfaces and the other nib is dark in color for testing light painted surfaces. At each end of the reservoir nib protective caps are attached to the assembly.
Abstract:
A method of processing a semiconductor wafer provides a wafer, and then forms an organic mask on at least a portion of the wafer. The method then applies a vapor etching process to the wafer through holes in the organic mask.
Abstract:
A system for transferring power between components includes a first object having a light emitter operatively connected to a power source, and a second object having a light receiver operatively connected to a power storage unit. The light receiver receives light emitted from the light emitter and converts the received light into electricity that is stored in the power storage unit.
Abstract:
A fluid treatment and media management device having concentric inner and outer perforated cylinders defining a chamber therebetween for containing a media. A case surrounds the perforated cylinders and forms an annular space between the case and the outer perforated cylinder. Respective end caps engage the opposite ends of the case and perforated cylinders to support such members. One or both of the end caps provide ports to the central core of the inner perforated cylinder, to the media chamber and to the annular space. The media can be removed from the fluid treatment and media management device without disassembly of the device for the purpose of disposal and/or regeneration of the media.
Abstract:
Provided is a method, system and software for responding to an incoming electronic message, including determining whether the incoming electronic message is relevant or irrelevant to a user, and if the incoming electronic message is irrelevant to the user, parsing the incoming electronic message for message origination information and replying to the message using the message origination information.
Abstract:
An optically transparent conductive material is disposed directly or indirectly on an inside surface of a cover material for static dissipation in an optical switching device. The optically transparent conductive material forms an electrically continuous film. The optically transparent conductive material can also be used for anti-reflection. An additional coating may be disposed directly or indirectly on an outside surface of the cover material.
Abstract:
A method of describing a periodontal disease state includes assigning severity diagnoses to portions of a dentition, where the severity diagnoses correspond to periodontal disease states, and assigning numeric values to the portions, where the numeric values correspond to the severity diagnoses. The method also includes obtaining a raw score based on the numeric values, and determining a disease score based on the raw score. The disease score corresponds to a periodontal disease state of the dentition.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method is described for optimizing prompts for a speech-enabled application. The speech-enabled application is operable to receive communications from a number of users and communicate one or more prompts to each user to illicit a response from the user that indicates the purpose of the user's communication. The method includes determining a number of prompt alternatives (each including one or more prompts) to evaluate and determining an evaluation period for each prompt alternative. The method also includes automatically presenting each prompt alternative to users during the associated evaluation period and automatically recording the results of user responses to each prompt alternative. Furthermore, the method includes automatically analyzing the recorded results for each prompt alternative based on one or more performance criteria and automatically implementing one of the prompt alternatives based on the analysis of the recorded results.
