Abstract: A device and method for electronically deploying responders is provided. The device includes a communication interface and a controller having access to a map database. The controller is configured to: receive, via the communication interface, a location of an incident; identify respective locations of at least two communication devices associated with respective responders; select, using the map database, different respective routes from the respective locations to the location for each of the at least two communication devices, the different respective routes selected to reduce duplication therebetween; and provide the different respective routes to each of the at least two communication devices.

Abstract: A display (110) providing a tactile display user interface is provided. A display sub-assembly (204) with lens (104) is mounted within an internal frame (218) having a base (214). Mechanical switches (210) are disposed between a back surface of the display and the base (214) of the internal frame (218). The display sub-assembly (204) and lens (104) is moveable relative to the internal frame (218) resulting in actuation of a single mechanical switch in response to the display being pressed. Sealing of the lens (104) to the internal frame (218) being maintained during switch actuation.

Abstract: A method and apparatus to reduce communication device peak current for alert tones are disclosed. A portable device may include a processor coupled to a transceiver, a current limit trigger circuit, and an alert tone current limit controller. The transceiver may be configured to process an audio signal representing an alert tone. The processor may be configured to determine whether the transceiver is in a transmit state and whether an audio volume level setting exceeds a threshold. In response, the current limit trigger circuit may be configured to activate the alert tone current limit controller that may include a voltage scale controller configured to generate a reduced audio signal by adjusting a peak-to-peak amplitude of the audio signal representing the alert tone and an alert tone amplitude modulator configured to generate an adjusted audio signal by restricting the maximum amplitude of the reduced audio signal.

Abstract: A process for controlling a plurality of mobile-radio equipped robots in a talkgroup includes receiving, at a mobile-radio equipped robot via a wireless communications interface comprising one of an infrastructure wireless communication interface for communicating with an infrastructure radio access network (RAN) and an ad-hoc wireless communication interface for communicating with an ad-hoc network, a group voice call containing a voice-command. The mobile-radio equipped robot determines that it is a target of the group voice call, and responsively text-converts the voice-command into an actionable text-based command. The mobile-radio equipped robot subsequently operates a mechanical drive element in accordance with the actionable text-based command.

Abstract: An audio framework for acoustic feedback suppression. One example portable communication device includes a microphone, a loudspeaker, and an electronic processor. The electronic processor receives an acoustic signal, including an audible component and an ultrasonic component, from the microphone. The electronic processor splits the acoustic signal into a first stream and a second stream identical to the first stream. The electronic processor is removes the ultrasonic component from the first stream to generate a filtered audio stream, and passes the filtered audio stream to a sound server. The electronic processor removes the audible component from the second stream to generate a received ultrasonic stream, and compares the received ultrasonic stream to a transmit ultrasonic stream to determine an acoustic distance. The electronic processor determines an attenuation level based on the acoustic distance, and adjusts an audio component of the portable communication device based on the attenuation level.

Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for charging primary battery-powered devices and battery-powered accessories tethered to the primary devices are disclosed. The two devices may include batteries of different types having different nominal voltages. A processing unit on the primary device may obtain state-of-charge information and other operating parameters of the batteries and may determine when to provide power to the accessory to charge its battery. The primary device may select its own battery, power provided by a charger to which it is coupled, or conditioned power as the source of charging energy provided to the accessory to charge its battery. Processing units on the two devices may adjust charging parameters to perform energy balancing while the batteries are simultaneously charged, based on operating parameters of the batteries, operating contexts of the devices, a charging prioritization scheme, or a current distribution scheme.
