Abstract:
Improved automatic transmission fluids (ATF's) and gear lubricant compositions comprising a low concentration of an oil-soluble transistion metal compound are provided. The transition metal compound ameliorates low temperature thickening in ATF's and high temperature thickening in gear lubricants.
Abstract:
A lubricant mixture suitable for a manual transmission fluid comprising:(a) a boronated overbased alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt selected from the group consisting of sulfonates, phenates, oxylates, carboxylates and mixtures thereof;(b) a friction modifier selected from the group consisting of fatty phosphites, fatty acid amides, borated fatty epoxides, fatty amines, glycerol esters and their borated derivatives, borated alkoxylated fatty amines, sulfurized olefins and mixtures thereof;(c) and an oil of lubricating viscosity, wherein such lubricants have excellent static and dynamic frictional characteristics. The lubricant fluids are particularly useful in reducing double detent and clashing during manual transmission shifting.
Abstract:
The invention provides a lubricating composition containing (a) 0.1 to 15 wt % of a polymer with (i) a weight average molecular weight of 100,000 to 500,000; and (ii) a shear stability index of 10 to 60; (b) a phosphorus-containing acid, salt, or ester; (c) a dispersant; and (d) an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further provides a method for lubricating a mechanical device with the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a polymeric phosphorus ester comprising the condensation product of a monomeric phosphorus acid or an ester thereof with a diol having two hydroxy groups separated by a chain of 4 to about 100 atoms exhibits good volatility, corrosion, wear, and/or seal performance in lubrication of a transmission.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing a corrosion inhibitor compound and a mixture of two or more dispersants, wherein 0 mole % to less than 50 mole % of the second dispersant molecules contain a carbocyclic ring. The invention further provides a method for lubricating a mechanical device using the lubricating composition.
Abstract:
