Abstract:
An inorganic-organic plastic having improved strength, elasticity, dimensional stability with increase in temperature and flame resistace and adapted for use in filling cracks and cavities and for making materials useful in the building industry is prepared by (1) premixing (c) an organic compound having at least two reactive hydrogen and at least one non-ionic hydrophilic group with (b) an aqueous silicate and then mixing the resulting mixture with (a) an organic polyisocyanate or (2) mixing (a), (b) and (c) simultaneously and reacting the mixture thus obtained to form a colloidal xerosol.
Abstract:
This invention is concerned with a method of tanning or retanning leather or pelts by treating them with an aqueous liquor containing water-soluble oligourethanes having ionic groups. The oligourethanes have a molecular weight of from 300 to 20,000 and they may be methylolated. The oligourethanes may be water-soluble owing to their ionic groups or they may contain hydrophilic segments to aid in their solubility in the aqueous liquor. The liquor may also contain up to an equal amount of formaldehyde or compounds which split off formaldehyde.
Abstract:
A process is provided for making a polyurethane mechanical foam adapted to be used as an interlayer between a plastic surface layer and a textile, the process involving frothing a non-ionic aqueous dispersion free from emulsifying agents of a polyurethane having a particle size of less than 1 micron, said dispersion containing more than 45% by weight polyurethane and a thickening agent whereby its viscosity of the dispersion is from about 10 to about 70 seconds with a Ford Cup having a 4 mm orifice to form a foamable mixture, spreading the frothed dispersion into a foamed film, and drying the resulting product.
Abstract:
The invention relates to polyurethane foam plastics having a density of from about 7 to about 100 kg/m.sup.3 which contain from about 0.1 to about 5 mVal/g of mobile ions consisting of cations and/or anions. The polyurethane foams are suitable as ion exchange media or as substrate for the propagation and cultivation of plants.

The instant invention relates to thermoplastic polyurea powders, optionally containing urethane groups, characterized byA. a smooth, substantially spherical or lenticular surface,B. an average particle diameter of 5 to 1,000.mu., preferably 10 to 200.mu.,C. a urea group content, and, optionally, a urethane group content, of 8 to 30% by weight,D. an ionic group content of 0.01-0.15 milliequivalents per gram of solids, preferably 0.02-0.1 milliequivalent per gram andE. 0.1 to 10% by weight, preferably 0.2 to 5% by weight, of an organic dye incorporated in the polymer molecule by way of at least one urethane and/or urea group,And the process of manufacture thereof.
Abstract:
Liquid organic polyisocyanates containing carboxyl and/or carboxylate groups are prepared by reacting liquid multicomponent mixtures of aromatic polyisocyanates having an isocyanato content of about 10 to about 20% by weight and a viscosity of about 8 cP to about 10,000 cP at 25.degree.C withA. a compound which contains carboxylate groups and hydrogen atoms which are reactive with isocyanate groups; orB. a hydroxycarboxylic or mercaptocarboxylic acid, wherebyBa. at least partial conversion of the carboxyl group into the corresponding carboxylate group by neutralization with a base is carried out simultaneously with or after the isocyanate addition reaction orBb. the hydroxycarboxylic acid or mercaptocarboxylic acid is of the kind in which the carboxyl groups are much less reactive with the isocyanate groups than are the hydroxyl or mercapto groups, the quantitative proportion of the reactants being so chosen that the products of the process have an isocyanate content of 10 to 40% by weight and a carboxyl or carboxylate group content of 0.1 to 10% by weight. The polyisocyanates can be used to make inorganic-organic plastics.
Abstract:
A polyurethaneamide containing ethylene oxide units and adapted to be dispersed in water without added emulsifiers and dispersions containing them are provided. The novel dispersions produce coatings on leather and other substrates having an improved glossy appearance.
Abstract:
The novel AOX-free process for imparting wet strength to paper with water-dispersible polyisocyanates is distinguished by a good wet-strength effect, even under mild drying conditions, and does not affect the activity of optical brighteners used at the same time.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for preparing an isocyanate group-containing allophanate corresponding to formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents the residue obtained by removing the isocyanate groups from a (cyclo)aliphatic or araliphatic diisocyanate,Y represents the represents an m-valent residue obtained by removing the hydroxyl groups from a (poly)hydroxyl compound having m OH groups andn and m are the same or different and have a value of 1 to 5, by reacting an isocyanate group-containing oxadiazinetrione with a primary alcohol in the presence of a basic catalyst having a pKa value of >6.
