Abstract:
The printer reads a capacity number of printed sheets and a accumulated number of printed sheets of a toner cartridge stored in a cartridge memory of toner cartridge and compares them to determine whether toner cartridge's service life has expired. Similarly, it reads toner cartridge's product information stored in the cartridge memory, and compares it with an authorized product's product information to determine whether the toner cartridge is an authorized product. If it is determined that toner cartridge's life has expired or the toner cartridge is not an authorized product, the printer executes printing process in the safety mode with an increased frequency compared to that of the standard mode. Thus, the printer allows continuation of printing without deteriorating printing quality and without halting instantly even when a toner cartridge, whose service life has expired, or an unauthorized product is used.
Abstract:
A data communication apparatus which first searches a plurality of addresses recorded for an input transmission destination. A communication line is selected which is suited to the set mode. Then, a check is made to determine whether or not the address is present for the set communication line from among the searched plurality of transmission destination addresses, and when the address is not present, the communication line having the next prioritized ranking is set. Then, this series of processes is repeated until the applicable transmission destination is present. The data communication apparatus transmits the data to the destination address when the address of the set communication line is present.
Abstract:
In a compressor that is configured to guide the lubricating oil separated from the discharged refrigerant by an oil separator to the radial bearing supporting the drive shaft, through an oil supply hole 29, a rotating member 30 that rotates together with said drive shaft is provided adjacent to the radial bearing on the drive shaft. Moreover, an outlet 29a of the oil supply hole 29 opens to the internal surface of a circular hole 31 that supports the rotating member 30. A channel 34 for restricting the flow rate comprises a gap defined between the rotating member 30 and the circular hole 31, and restricts the flow rate discharged front the oil supply hole 29 to the radial bearing, and at the same rime, the rotation of the rotating member 30 sweeps out foreign substances, such as sludge, from the outlet 29a of the oil supply hole 29.
Abstract:
In an image coding apparatus for encoding and decoding multi-level image data with block truncation coding, multi-level image data is divided into second blocks (e.g., 6*6 pixels) which is larger in size than a first block (e.g., 4*4 pixels) to be coded. Average value and gradation level amplitude are calculated on a second block, and encoding and decoding are performed on a first block by using the average value and gradation level amplitude. When a pixel not adjacent to the first block is included in an end of the image or the like in a second block, data of the actual pixels are used for the pixels having no data. Thus, deterioration of the image quality can be reduced.
Abstract:
The object of the invention is a composition for permanent waving of human hair comprising, as sole or main reducing agent one or several polyglycol monothioglycollates or lactates of the general formula ##STR1## wherein R denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, X represents an ethoxy or propoxy group, and n is a number from 2 to 5. These compositions have a low characteristic smell, good waving properties, and an extremely low skin sensitizing potential.
Abstract:
A minute electrode comprised of a bundle of carbon fibers covered with a nonconducting resin, and the ends of the carbon fibers recesses at one end of the resin, and has the micro-holes released to the outside. This electrode has small flow sensitivity and is not subject to be contaminated by interference substances. The minute electrode of this invention is useful for various electrodes for the electrochemical analysis.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a screening method for determining whether a substance of interest is a substance which alters GPR40-mediated cell stimulating activities, comprising using a substance of interest, a biomembrane containing GPR40, or cells containing said biomembrane, and phospholipase or salts thereof. According to the present invention, substances involved in insulin secretion can be screened. In addition, according to the present invention, substance useful for the prevention or treatment of diabetes, diabetic complications and degenerative diseases, hyperglycemia, polyuria, ketonemia, acidosis, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, neurodegenerative diseases, insulinoma, cancers, hyperinsulinemia, hyperglyceridemia, fatty liver, hypoglycemia due to insulin hypersecretion, arteriosclerosis, hyperlipidemia, cerebral stroke, obesity, various diseases induced by diabetes or obesity, and the like.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire having a tread portion including land portions formed by vertical grooves provided in a tire circumferential direction and lateral grooves provided so as to intersect with the vertical grooves, the lateral grooves being disposed in the tire circumferential direction having a plurality of pitches P1, P2, and P3, wherein in a shoulder region of the tread portion, as a pitch decreases a volume ratio of the lateral grooves with respect to a pitch volume thereof increases; and, in a center region of the tread portion, as a pitch decreases the volume ratio of the lateral grooves with respect to a pitch volume thereof decreases.
Abstract:
To provide a pneumatic tire achieving improved wear resistance and improved handling performance while maintaining rollover resistance, a tread surface 11 is formed of a center arc 31, a shoulder-side arc 32, and a shoulder arc 33. The tread surface 11 is formed such that a value given by F1=L1/(TDW×0.5) falls in the range of 0.64≦F1≦0.7, a value given by F2=TR1/OD falls in the range of 1.2≦F2≦2.0, a value given by F3=TR2/TR1 falls in the range of 0.1≦F3≦0.2, and a value given by F4=(β×TDW)/(100×SW) falls in the range of 0.35≦F4≦0.48, where L1 is an outline range being a width from an equatorial plane 5 to an edge of the center arc 31, TDW is an extended tread width, TR1 is a curvature radius of the center arc 31, TR2 is a curvature radius of the shoulder-side arc 32, OD is a tire outside diameter, SW is a total width, and β is an aspect ratio.
