Abstract:
Identical ring-shaped metal blanks are machined whereby each blank forms a plurality of identical components. The blanks are first machined on both sides, and then a stack of the blanks is clamped axially adjacent one another on an arbor. Tools machine the blanks for reshaping the blanks. One of the tools is a slitter which makes axial cuts through the stack to separate each blank into a plurality of components distributed around the axis.
Abstract:
A tube heat exchanger intended to be used for the production of carbon black, includes a cylindrical closed chamber having a plurality of tubes which extend through the entire, essentially cylindrically shaped chamber. Upper end of the tubes are attached to an upper end wall, preferably by welding, and hang down to a tube plate. The tube plate equipped with compensating devices to enable thermally induced expansions and contractions of the tubes to occur.
Abstract:
In a chain saw unit, composed of a saw chain and saw chain bar, for a motor-driven wood-cutting chain saw, longer working life and other desirable results flow from forming one or both of its components from a low alloy steel having a carbon content of 0.55 - 0.75 wt. percent, and containing silicon and chromium in controlled small amounts. The alloy may contain, also, small amounts of one or more of the alloying metals, Mo; W; Mn; V; Al and Ni. After the component is formed it is hardened, preferably, austempered.
Abstract:
A cutting insert and associated shim plate are clamped in a tool holder by the aid of a sleeve member at least partially surrounding the clamping pin of the holder. Said pin has a conical abutment complementary to an inclined cam surface on the sleeve member.
Abstract:
Rolling mill rolls, formed of hard metal, used for the hot rolling of metals are subject to serious wear and related destructive influences. Such wear can be reduced by giving the rolls electrochemical cathodic protection, in which the electrolyte is the cooling water used in the hot rolling operations and sacrificial anodes are associated with the hard metal rolls.
Abstract:
A process for increasing the resistance to wear of the surface of hard metal parts subject to wear, such as the cutting blade of cutting tools, by coating the surface of the hard cemented carbide articles with a layer of refractory oxide such as aluminium oxide, ziroconium oxide or stabilized zirconium oxide in a thickness of up to 20 microns.
Abstract:
A reinforced mould, including a mould body having in at least one end surface thereof a mould cavity which presents relatively sharp corners when seen in cross section, and in which the mould body has arranged along at least part of its axial length a pretensioned reinforcing means in the form of at least one winding of thin metallic strip material and is slotted generally axially along at least two of said corners to form separate body portions, said body portions being held in contiguous relationship solely by the pre-tensioning force exerted by the reinforcing means on said body.
Abstract:
A thin cutting tool comprises a plate-shaped holder having an insert site and an insert secured in said insert site by means of a somewhat resilient clamping arm. One end of the clamping arm is fixed to the holder whilst with its free other end it clamps the insert in the insert site. The clamping force is supplied by bending the clamping arm. Preferably, the clamping arm is tapered from its fixed end to its opposite or free end, with a gradient selected to provide a substantially constant bending stress.
Abstract:
The cutting tool assembly of the present invention consists essentially in (a) a tool holder and (b) an indexible cutting insert of modified rhombic configuration in which pairs of main cutting edges (disposed at an angle of less than 60* with respect to each) are separated by intermediate facing edge portions which are parallel to each other. The intermediate facing edge portions are so configured as to constitute outfacing cutting edges each of which cooperates with the main cutting edge adjacent thereto. Both the pairs of main cutting edges and the out-facing cutting edges are provided with chip-breaking grooves. The assembly provides an arrangement wherein not only the main cutting edge but also the out-facing cutting edge of the cutting insert are laid bare with respect to the tool holder.
Abstract:
For use in drilling through earthy material into underlying rock, the eccentric drill tool of the present invention is generally characterized by two cutting portions, with a central portion which is fixed in relation to the drill rod and an eccentric portion which can be shifted between protruding and retracted positions.
