Abstract:
An electrorheological fluid comprises a nanoparticle composition comprising a nanoparticle, uncoated or coated with a polymeric or metallic coating and covalently bonded to or coated on a surface of a polymeric or inorganic particle; and a dielectric fluid having a dielectric constant lower than that of the nanoparticle composition. A nanoparticle composition also comprises a carbon-based nanoparticle, covalently bonded to or coated on a surface of a conjugated polymer particle or inorganic particle, wherein the nanoparticle composition is a dielectric material.
Abstract:
A water hammer mitigating flow control structure for a downhole completion including a tubular member configured for the downhole environment. A valve member in operable communication with the tubular member and positionable with respect to the tubular member to allow or prevent fluid movement through the tubular member. An absorber in operable communication with the valve member and configured to allow movement of the valve member the movement absorbing a pressure rise against the valve member in use. Also included is a method for mitigating water hammer in a flow control structure for a downhole completion
Abstract:
A strokable liner hanger includes a liner hanger; one of a slide seal and a casing seal sub disposed adjacent the liner hanger and the other of the slide seal and the casing seal sub disposed adjacent the one of the slide seal and the casing seal sub. A method for completing a wellbore is included.
Abstract:
A backoff sub includes a housing and a backoff facilitator at least partially within the housing. The backoff sub is a part of the string that is stuck and is capable of adding energy to the string within which the sub is disposed to facilitate backing off of a portion of that sting close to a stuck point of that string. A method is included.
Abstract:
An actuation and/or communication device for the downhole environment. The device includes a selectively implosion resistant canister; and an environment within the canister and releasable upon implosion of the canister. A method for actuating a downhole device and/or communicating. The method includes delivering a selectively implosion resistant canister having an environment internal to the canister releasable upon implosion of the canister to a selected location within a borehole; imploding the canister; releasing the environment; and receiving a signal generated by the release of the environment. A method for an actuating a tool and/or communicating including delivering of an implosive device to a selected location; creating a rarefaction event by imploding said device; and affecting a tool in response to the event.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are disclosed for controlling and monitoring injection zone and production zone parameters in order to control the injected fluid front to avoid breakthrough of the injected fluid to the production zone and thus optimize hydrocarbon recovery.
Abstract:
An apparatus for monitoring and controlling flow in offset parallel bores contained within a single completion component provides parallel bores and recesses for mounting monitoring or control devices in a single unit which is sized to fit within an 8.5″ I.D. of a 9⅝″ standard casing of an oil field wellbore.
Abstract:
A permanently installed, remotely monitored and controlled transient pressure test system is provided. This system utilizes shut-in/choke valves, pressure sensors and flow meters which are permanently associated with the completion string to perform transient pressure tests in single and multiple zone production and injection wells. The present invention permits full bore testing which thereby eliminates undesirable wellbore storage effects. The present invention further allows for pressure testing limited only to a selected zone (or zones) in a well without expensive well intervention and without halting production from, or injection into, other zones in the well. The permanently located pressure test system of this invention also allows for real-time, downhole nodal sensitivity and control. This pressure test system may be permanently deployed either in production wells or injection wells.
Abstract:
A method of evaluating a stimulation operation includes: receiving parameter information for the stimulation operation, the stimulation operation including injecting an acid stimulation fluid into an earth formation along a selected length of a borehole from a tubular disposed in the borehole; and generating, by a processor, a thermal model based on one or more energy balance equations that account for at least a first heat source and a second heat source, the first heat source expected to produce heat during the stimulation by a chemical reaction between an acid in the stimulation fluid and the formation, and the second heat source including expected geothermal heat from the formation.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a flow-actuated actuator. The actuator includes, a tubular with a flow passageway having a first flow area, and at least one movable member in operable communication with the tubular. The at least one movable member is movable relative to the tubular between at least a first position and a second position, the at least one movable member configured to form a second flow area that is smaller than the first flow area when in the second position, the flow-actuated actuator is configured to move a separate member in response to fluid flow therethrough.
