Abstract:
A diagnostic system is described for use in analyzing client-server communications and, more specifically, communication applications that employ client-server interactions. The diagnostic system includes a client-side diagnostic tool and a server-side diagnostic tool that work in cooperation to analyze both sides of the client-server interaction for potential problems with the communication applications.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for applying user specific acoustic adjustment parameters are provided. The intelligibility of speech for a particular user is determined and a set of acoustic adjustment parameters is determined. The set or template of acoustic adjustment parameters for the user is placed in central store, for example provided as or in association with a server. The template can be obtained from the server for application in connection with a communication involving the user by providing an identification of the template.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are directed to configuring a portable electronic device such that a user of the portable electronic device is required to use two hands to operate the portable electronic device. In some configurations, the portable electronic device determines whether the portable electronic device is moving at a rate of speed that is greater than a predetermined threshold before requiring the user to use two hands. Alternatively, or in addition, a function, feature, and/or application of the portable electronic device may be inhibited such that two hands are required. Once the portable electronic device determines that the user is using two hands, an operation, feature, function, and/or application may then be enabled although still be inhibited.
Abstract:
When a PSAP receives a call from a cellular telephone in reference to an emergent event, the speed and quality of the response may be improved by the cellular service provider's provision to the PSAP of information that includes the geographic location of the caller's phone. In a typical scenario, in which the call is from a GPS-equipped phone, the GPS coordinates of the phone may be echoed back to the PSAP in response to a specialized open “ping” request from the service provider. Of particular advantage to this approach is that GPS ping requests typically work regardless of whether a call is in progress, as long as the phone is turned on.
Abstract:
A communication, such as a voice communication, is established between a communication device and a media application. The media application may be, for example, a voice conferencing system or a media server. Some or all of the communication is translated into a plurality of text streams that are in different languages. The plurality of text streams are transmitted to the communication device along with the stream of the communication. The communication device receives the text streams in the different languages and the stream of the communication. A user of the communication device can select a language for displaying one or more of the text streams in the different languages. The text stream associated with the selected language is then displayed to the user in conjunction with the stream of the communication.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for removing noise from an audible signal are provided. More particularly, a vibration sensor is used to obtain a vibration signal from an environment including a communication device. The signal from the vibration sensor is combined with a signal from a microphone associated with the communication device, to create a modified audible signal. More particularly, a filtering or subtraction process can be performed with respect to the audible signal, at a time corresponding to an event detected as part of the vibration signal. The resulting modified audible signal can have reduced noise as compared to the original audible signal.
Abstract:
A first text message is received from a first user communication endpoint. In one embodiment, the first text message is addressed to a general text messaging address for a corporation. In response to receiving the first text message from the first user communication endpoint, a second text message is sent to the first user communication endpoint. The second text message is used to identify a way to select an individual user of the plurality users. For example, the second text message may have a menu with a list of users. A third text message is received from the first user communication endpoint. The third text message identifies the individual user of the plurality of users. A fourth text message is sent that allows the first user communication endpoint and a user communication endpoint of the selected individual user to establish a text messaging session.

Abstract:
An optical scanner is configured to scan multiple print portions of a body part such as a finger. The optical scanner identifies a first one of the print portions in an area of an optical surface. An event such as launching an application is generated based on identifying the first print portion in the area of the optical surface. In addition, various events can be generated based on different combinations of print portions in different areas of the optical surface. In a second embodiment, a property detector is configured to identify different properties of a sleeve in different areas of a surface. An event is generated based on the detection of a property of the sleeve in an area of the surface.
