Abstract:
ABA type block copolymers as a new class of temperature sensing polymers with tunable, high temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). A sensor includes a heater, a thermal insulator between two thermometer layers, the heater generating a thermal gradient within the thermal insulator. The thermometers give an indirect measurement of fluid flow around the sensor, based on their temperature readings. The thermometers are flexible layers including ABA block polymers.

Abstract:
Microstructures immersed in a liquid have multiple chambers and funnels oriented inwardly. The funnels generate differential motility for bacteria. Bacteria is therefore concentrated within the chamber, and effectively sequestered from the environment outside the microstructures. Multiple consecutive chambers and conical funnels allow more effective sequestration of bacteria. These microtraps offer biocontrol options alternative to pharmaceutical solution such as antibiotics.
Abstract:
A method for controlling microstructural and nanostructural arrangement of nominally-aligned arrays of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is disclosed. The method comprises synthesizing metal oxide particles in situ in nominally-aligned arrays of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) after synthesis of CNTs. The particles can be SnO2 particles or MnO2 particles. A foam structure is further disclosed. The foam structure comprises nominally-aligned arrays of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and a plurality of metal oxide particles associated with the nominally-aligned arrays of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The CNTs have an original crystalline structure as grown and the CNTs with the metal oxide particles have a crystalline structure equal to the crystalline structure of the CNTs as grown.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for vibration suppression using a granular particle chain. The granular particle chain is statically compressed and the end particles of the chain are attached to a payload and vibration source. The properties of the granular particles along with the amount of static compression are chosen to provide desired filtering of vibrations.
