摘要: Embodiments of the present invention provide an optical connection that protects the optical fiber or cable. This optical connection includes an optical coupling to communicatively couple an optical fiber to an optical device. A mechanical guide receives the optical fiber proximate to the optical device. This mechanical guide prevents excessive or limits the amount of bending of individual optical fibers or cable proximate to the optical device. This may be achieved by receiving the optical fiber within a mechanical guide having a predetermined bend radius based on the optical fiber or optical cable running inside. By limiting the potential for excessive bending of an optical fiber proximate to an optical coupling the potential for attenuation of the transmitted light within the fiber due to extreme bending is decreased.

摘要: A surgical console is disclosed for simulating surgical procedures. Simulations can be directly integrated and supported by the surgical console and training surgical instruments. An operator may use actual control hardware to manipulate the surgical instruments that will be manipulated during actual surgical procedures to improve the operator's surgical dexterity. The surgical console can include a processing module, an external interface, simulation module, and a user interface. The processing module directs operation of peripheral devices coupled to the surgical console. The peripheral devices may include control devices, such as, but not limited to footswitches or other like control devices, surgical instruments such as, but not limited to, surgical microscopes, and other surgical training instruments, such as training surgical cutting tools. Additionally, the processing module may monitor the operating parameters and surgical modes associated with the training surgical procedure. The operator may receive feedback from the surgical console on his/her performance of the training surgical procedure.

摘要: A continuous wave laser is provided to produce isolated surgical effects within selected tissue layers. The continuous wave laser includes a laser source, an optical modulation device, and a system controller. The laser source produces a laser beam which is provided to the optical modulation device. The optical modulation device modulates the laser beam in order achieve isolated surgical effects within selected tissue layers. The system controller drives the laser source and the optical modulation device to achieve the isolated surgical effects. The system controller may direct the laser beam delivered to the selected tissues comprise a series of modulated bursts which further comprise modulated micro bursts. These bursts and micro bursts may be modulated in amplitude, duration and separation.

摘要: The invention is directed to an apparatus and method for oscillator start-up control, and more particularly to an apparatus and method for overdriving a laser to obtain mode-lock operation. The oscillator with start-up control has a lasing medium mounted on a base. A laser pumping source is mounted on the base for inducing a laser beam from the lasing medium. A mode-lock detection device is mounted about the base. An overdrive circuit is coupled with the mode-lock detection and signal processing device for determining mode-lock status of the oscillator. The overdrive circuit overdrives the pump source when the oscillator is not in mode-lock status.

摘要: The present invention provides a surgical footswitch that includes a base, a pedal, an encoder assembly, a wireless interface, and an internal power generator. The pedal mounts upon the base and pivots. The encoder assembly couples to the pedal. As the pedal pivots, the encoder assembly translates the mechanical signal of the pedal into a control signal based on the pedals position and/or orientation. The wireless interface couples the encoder assembly to receive the control signal. The wireless interface also couples the surgical footswitch to a surgical console operable to control and direct surgical equipment. The wireless interface passes the control signal from the encoder to the surgical console, which then directs the surgical equipment based on the control signal. This wireless interface eliminates the tangle of wires or tethers, which may be a hazard in the surgical theater. The internal power generator translates footswitch movement into stored energy to eliminate potential failures of the footswitch during a procedure and overcome the need to replace batteries within the footswitch.
