Abstract: A melt blended composition comprising, in weight percent (wt %) based upon the weight of the composition: (A) 55 to 94.99 wt % of a thermoplastic polymer, (B) 5 to 44.99 wt % of a moisture curable polymer, and (C) 0.01 to 5 wt % of a moisture condensation catalyst exhibits enhanced rheological and mechanical properties as compared to a composition alike in all aspects save for the presence of a moisture curable polymer.

Abstract: Silane-crosslinkable polymeric compositions comprising a polyolefin having hydrolyzable silane groups, an acidic silanol condensation catalyst, and a phenolic antioxidant. The phenolic antioxidant has a phenol-based moiety fused with a cyclic ether where the oxygen atom of the cyclic ether is located in the para position relative to the hydroxyl group of the phenol-based moiety. Such crosslinkable polymeric compositions can be employed in various articles of manufacture, such as in the wire and cable industry.

Abstract: The process for making extra high voltage cable insulation is improved by using a composition comprising in weight percent based on the weight of the composition: (A) 95 to 99.9% of an ethylene-based polymer; (B) 0.2 to 2.5% peroxide; (C) 0.01 NI to 0.5% of a sulfur-containing first antioxidant having at least one —S(CH2)2CO2R group, wherein R is a C6 to C20 alkyl; (D) 0.001 to 0.009%) of a phosphorus-containing second antioxidant that does not contain a —S(CH2)2C02R group, wherein R is a C6 to C20 alkyl; (E) Optionally, an organic nitrogenous base; and (F) Optionally, a phenolic third antioxidant that does not contain a —S(CH2)2C02R group, wherein R is a C6 to C20 alkyl.

Abstract: A copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane includes from 0.1 wt % to 5.0 wt % hydrolysable silane groups and has a Mz(abs)/Mw(abs) of less than or equal to 9.5; a ratio of Mz(abs)/Mw(abs) to polydispersity of less than or equal to 1.5; a polydispersity of 6.6 or greater; a Density×Polydispersity of 6.0 or greater; or an Amorphous Content at Room Temperature×Polydispersity of 360 or greater. Methods for forming a moisture-crosslinkable polymer composition include forming a copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane at a polymerization temperature of greater than or equal to 180° C. to less than or equal to 400° C. at a pressure from 5,000 psi to 50,000 psi; and adding a silanol condensation catalyst to the copolymer of ethylene and hydrolysable silane.

Abstract: The copolymerization of ethylene (E) and methoxy polyethylene glycol methacrylate (MPEGMA) produces the copolymer co-E-MPEGMA. These copolymers are distinct from polyethylene, e.g., low density polyethylene (LDPE) grafted with MPEGMA, i.e., g-E-MPEGMA, and are useful in the preparation of insulation sheaths for medium, high and extra-high voltage cables. Such cables exhibit good water tree retardance.
