Abstract: A rotating electrical machine includes a rotor and a magnet unit. The rotating electrical machine also includes a cylindrical stator and a housing. The stator is equipped with a stator winding made up of a plurality of phase windings. The stator is arranged coaxially with the rotor and faces the rotor. The housing has the rotor and the stator disposed therein. The rotor includes a cylindrical magnet retainer to which the magnet unit is secured and an intermediate portion which connects between a rotating shaft of the rotor and the magnet retainer and extends in a radial direction of the rotating shaft. A first region located radially inside an inner peripheral surface of a magnetic circuit component made up of the stator and the rotor is greater in volume than a second region between the inner peripheral surface of the magnetic circuit component and the housing in the radial direction.

Abstract: A rotating electrical machine includes a magnetic field-producing unit, an armature with a multi-phase armature winding, and a rotor. The magnetic field-producing unit includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion is located closer to a d-axis in a d-q axis coordinate system than the second position is. The second position is located closer to a q-axis in the d-q axis coordinate system than the first position is. The magnetic field-producing unit is magnetically oriented to meet a condition where an angle which an easy axis of magnetization of the first portion makes with the d-axis is smaller than an angle which an easy axis of magnetization of the second portion makes with the q-axis. The magnetic field-producing unit is configured to have an intrinsic coercive force of 400 kA/m and also have a remanent flux density of 1.0 T or more.

Abstract: In a power converter for converting DC power from a DC power source into AC power and supplying the AC power to a single-phase winding or multi-phase windings, a controller controls first and second inverter circuits and performs first power conversion control to lock open/closed states of switching elements in the second inverter circuit and switch open/closed states of switching elements in the first inverter circuit, and second power conversion control to lock open/closed states of the switching elements in the first inverter circuit and switch open/closed states of the switching elements in the second inverter circuit. The controller is configured to perform either the first power conversion control or the second power conversion control when an effective value of drive current through each winding is less than a threshold, and otherwise switch between the first power conversion control and the second power conversion control.

Abstract: A rotary electrical machine is equipped with a rotor that is rotatably supported, and a stator having a stator core that is disposed coaxially with the rotor. The stator core is configured as a plurality of stacked steel plates, and has a yoke portion that is of annular shape, a plurality of teeth extending radially from the yoke portion, and slots between adjacent teeth. A stator winding is wound in the slots. The yoke portion has holes that extend in the stacking direction of the steel plates, at positions of radial-direction extension of the slots, and molded powder bodies formed from a magnetic powder are provided within the holes.

Abstract: A drive apparatus is provided for driving a rotating electric machine having first and second multi-phase coils. The drive apparatus includes first and second inverters, first and second shift switches, and first and second energization controllers. The first energization controller is configured to turn on and off, for each of phase windings of the first and second multi-phase coils, one corresponding pair of upper-arm and lower-arm switches of the first and second inverters while keeping the first and second shift switches in an OFF state. The second energization controller is configured to turn on and off, for each corresponding pair of the phase windings of the first and second multi-phase coils, one corresponding upper-arm switch of the first inverter and one corresponding lower-arm switch of the second inverter respectively for first energization periods and second energization periods that are alternately set while keeping the shift switches in an ON state.

Abstract: A control apparatus is provided to control a rotating electric machine whose number of poles is switched from a pre-switching number of poles to a post-switching number of poles. The control apparatus includes a pre-switching control unit, a post-switching control unit and a transition control unit. The pre-switching control unit controls the torque generated by the machine before the switching of the number of poles. The post-switching control unit controls the torque generated by the machine after the switching. During a pole-number switching period, the transition control unit controls electric currents flowing in stator coils of the machine or voltages applied to the stator coils to make each magnetic pole formed with control by the pre-switching control unit not coincident with any magnetic pole formed with control by the post-switching control unit and having the same polarity as the magnetic pole formed with the control by the pre-switching control unit.
