Abstract: A storage system monitors the first access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a first period, and the second access frequency of occurrence which is the access frequency of occurrence from a host device during a second period shorter than the first period. Along with performing data relocation among the tiers (levels) in the first period cycle based on the first access frequency of occurrence, the storage system performs a decision whether or not to perform a second relocation based on the first access frequency of occurrence and the second access frequency of occurrence, synchronously with access from a host device. Here the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the first relocation is different from the threshold value utilized in a decision on whether or not to perform the second relocation.

Abstract: A storage system includes: a controller which includes a processor and a memory; and one or more storage devices. The controller sets a plurality of logical volumes, stores data related to a write request in the memory when the write request is received in the logical volume, and collectively compresses a plurality of pieces of data related to the write request in the memory and writes the compressed data to the storage device. When a plurality of pieces of data related to a plurality of the logical volumes that need to be written to the storage device exist in the memory, the controller selects the plurality of pieces of data in an identical logical volume, and collectively compresses the plurality of pieces of selected data and writes the compressed data in the storage device.

Abstract: In a multi controller storage system, hardware and software are updated without interruption. The storage system including a node has storage control units each including a processor, a memory, and a port; and a storage drive, and the storage control units each request data access and transmit and receive data with respect to a host computer via the ports. The processors process input and output data from the host computer, the memories store the control information in order to access the data stored in the storage drive, and the storage system transmits the control information stored in the memories to another node, stores the control information in the memories of the storage control units, and sets ports of the other node in consideration of a relationship between the storage control units and the ports of the nodes, if the other node can access data relating to the control information.

Abstract: A virtual storage system according to an aspect of the present invention includes multiple storage systems each including: a storage controller that accepts a read/write request for reading or writing from and to a logical volume; and multiple storage devices. The storage system defines a pool that manages the storage device capable of allocating any of storage areas to the logical volume, and manages the capacity (pool capacity) of the storage areas belonging to the pool, and the capacity (pool available capacity) of unused storage areas in the pool. Furthermore, the storage system calculates the total value of the pool available capacities of the storage systems included in the virtual storage system, and provides the server with the total value as the pool available capacity of the virtual storage system.

Abstract: A storage system for continuing I/O without affecting drive box addition to a host computer includes: a plurality of drive boxes for connecting to a computer device that transmits commands for data reads or writes; and a storage controller connected to the drive boxes. A first drive box provides a first storage region to the computer device. The storage controller manages correspondence between the first storage region and a physical storage region of the drives constituting the first storage region. The first drive box receives a command for the first storage region from the computer device and transfers the command to the storage controller. The storage controller generates a data transfer command including a data storage destination based on the address management table, and transfers the command to the first drive box. The first drive box then transfers the data transfer command to the second drive box.

Abstract: One or more storage systems are connected to one or more storage boxes comprising multiple storage devices. Multiple storage areas provided by one or more storage boxes include an allocated area, which is a storage area that is allocated to a virtual volume, and an empty area, which is a storage area that is not allocated to any logical volume. Multiple owner rights corresponding to multiple storage areas are set in one or more storage systems. A storage system having an empty area owner right changes an empty area to the allocated area by allocating the empty area. In a case where a configuration change (a relative change in the number of storage boxes with respect to the number of storage systems) is performed, a first storage system that exists after the configuration change sets, in the first storage system, either more or fewer owner rights than the owner rights, which have been allocated to the first storage system before the configuration change.

Each of the plurality of computer nodes includes a local storage and at least one virtual machine. Each of the plurality of computer nodes transfers write data for the local storage to at least one different computer node for redundancy. Abstract: An intermediate device is disposed between a host and a search target. Search requests of m-multiplicity (requests involving a data transfer amount that is unknown to the host) for at least one among n-processes (n is an integer equal to or more than 1) to be executed by the host are issued as requests from the host to the intermediate device. A temporary area associated with the search requests is allocated in the host. For each of the search requests, the intermediate device recognizes a hit data volume in accordance with the search request within a search scope. For each of the search, the hit data is written in an area of the temporary area that corresponds to a write destination address. The write destination address is updated for each of the search requests on the basis of the recognized hit data volume.

Abstract: In a storage system, first and second controllers have respective first and second buffer and cache areas. The first controller stores write data in accordance with a write request in the first cache area without involving the first buffer area and to transfer the stored write data to the second cache area without involving the second buffer area. The first controller is configured to determine which of the first and second cache areas is to be used as a copy source and to be used as a copy destination depending on whether the storing of the first write data in the first cache area had been successful or on whether the transfer of the write data from the first cache area to the second controller had been successful, and by copying data from the copy source to the copy destination, recovers data in an area related to a transfer failure.
