摘要： An apparatus for positioning a recording or playback head over a rotating recording medium, such as a magnetic disk. When access to a desired track is attempted, the head is quickly moved and placed within a range close to the track under open loop control. When the head enters the range close to the desired track, the head control is switched to servo feed under closed loop control. During the servo feed, the head is moved according to a head position signal representing the actual position of the head, the head position signal being given by a head position detector having a portion moving together with the head. The head is thus directed to a predetermined position according to an error signal corresponding to the deviation of the head position. When the head has passed through the desired position, driving force in the reverse direction is generated and the head is forced back toward the desired position. The head thus oscillates around the desired position but converges to it.

摘要： A white balance adjusting device for use in a camera which photographs a field and forms a video signal representing the field. In the white balance adjusting device, while a sequential photographing is under way, updating of the color temperature data to be used for adjusting a white balance is prohibited. Therefore, the hues of main objects in the respective frames of still images photographed by the sequential photographic operation remain unchanged, thereby maintaining the homogeneity of the main objects. Also, in the white balance adjusting device, control a device is used to provide a short response time for a quick response property in a still mode and to provide a longer response time in a movie mode when compared with the still mode. As a result, the white balance can be adjusted according to the photographic modes of the camera.

When the camera is not in use a sliding cover is placed over the lens with a white translucent sheet facing the lens. A sync signal generator circuit is provided for producing a reference signal which is synchronous to the rotation of the recording medium. The controller controls the head transport mechanism and causes the envelope detector to detect an envelope, responsive to the reference signal.

摘要： A method of protecting a magnetic recording medium includes measuring a time period over which a main power supply continues to remain in an off state and the magnetic recording medium continues to remain loaded at a predetermined position. If the measured time period attains a predetermined time period (e.g. 60 minutes), a magnetic recording/playback head is shifted to an origin position or a stand-by position outside a recording/playback area of the recording medium, thereby preventing the magnetic head from leaving its impression on the magnetic recording/playback area of the recording medium due to continuous pressing contact between the two.

摘要： A digital still camera is provided with a freely rotatably dial. The camera has a liquid crystal display screen provided on its back and the screen displays film borders. A thumbnail image corresponding to main image data that has been recorded on a memory card is displayed in a thumbnail image border within the film borders. By rotating the dial, the film borders are moved so that a desired thumbnail image becomes enclosed by a designating frame. When the thumbnail image is enclosed by the designating frame, the main image is displayed an area. When a blank area is enclosed by the designating frame, the main image data can be recorded on the memory card. Operability is facilitated because recording, playback and designation of a frame to be played back can all be performed in accordance with rotation of the dial.
