A method for controlling speed of a single phase induction motor using frequency variation, including the steps of generating an operation start signal and a speed command signal according to a user's selection, outputting a digital data for formation of a sinusoidal wave signal of a desired frequency, to converting means at an interval of a predetermined time period set by a timer to thereby generate the sinusoidal wave signal of the frequency desired by the user, generating the sinusoidal wave based on the digital data, comparing the sinusoidal wave with a triangular signal for controlling a speed of a motor, and converting a DC voltage from a power source into an AC voltage of a frequency band desired by the user to thereby operate the motor. An apparatus for controlling the speed of a single phase induction motor is also provided.

A method for manufacturing a thin film transistor array panel includes forming a gate line and a gate electrode protruding from the gate line on a substrate; forming a gate insulating layer on the gate line and the gate electrode; depositing sequentially a semiconductor material and a metal material on the gate insulating layer; performing a first etching operation on the semiconductor material and the metal material using a first mask to form a semiconductor layer and a metal layer, the metal layer including a data line, a source electrode, and a drain electrode, in which the drain electrode protrudes from the data line, and the source electrode and the drain electrode having an integral shape; and performing a second etching operation on the metal layer using a second mask to divide the source electrode and the drain electrode.

Disclosed herein is mobile middleware, a context monitoring method, a context-aware system, and a context-aware service provision method, which support energy-efficient context monitoring. The mobile middleware receives a request for a CMQ from context-aware application programs, receives sensor data from sensors, monitors whether the CMQ is satisfied, and transmits an event to the context-aware application programs according to results of the monitoring. In this case, the mobile middleware controls the sensors so that only sensor data required to determine whether the CMQ is satisfied needs to be transmitted so as to reduce energy consumption during the performance of the monitoring. Therefore, the mobile middleware can perform energy-efficient context monitoring, required by the context-aware application programs.

A photographing apparatus capable of automatic detection of a focus of a subject and a method thereof are disclosed. The photographing apparatus includes a control unit for detecting the focus of the subject using images of the subject acquired with a moveable lens being in different positions so as to allow the detection of the focus of the subject automatically and nearly simultaneously with the photographing the subject without using a separate AF module that requires light separation and/or separate dedicated focus image sensor.
